Article Abstract

The problems that are inherent in the green shift of the energy sectors are particularly visible in countries where the hard coal mining industry plays an important role in the economy and society. For any transition to be successful, public support is crucial. This empirical study shows that - as a consequence of the affect heuristic - those who perceive hard coal mining as beneficial tend to minimize both its detrimental environmental impacts and its personal safety hazards. Ignoring the affect heuristic may have retarded transformations and led to a failure of many information campaigns.

This study aims to explore the mechanism behind the influence of stress on gas adsorption by coal during deep mining and improve the accuracy of gas disaster prevention and control. To achieve this aim, thermodynamic analysis was conducted on the process of gas adsorption by loaded coal, and modified thermodynamic model proposed by previous scholars. It is found that stress plays an important role in gas adsorption by coal.

Uniaxial compression experiments were conducted on coal rock utilizing a computed tomography (CT) scanning system for real-time monitoring to explain the issue of gas volume significantly exceeding reservoir capacity during coal and gas outbursts. A percolation factor a which can make a significant contribution to the research on premonitory information of gas outbursts is introduced to determine whether percolation occurs in coal rock, and supports the outburst percolation theory. It was found that percolation probability and correlation length increase with greater porosity, and that the number of pore clusters decreases as porosity increases.

High-temperature structural disorders stabilize hydrous aluminosilicates in the mantle transition zone.

Nat Commun

Center for High Pressure Science, State Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Science and Technology, Yanshan University, Qinhuangdao, 066004, China.

Hydrous aluminosilicates are important deep water-carriers in sediments subducting into the deep mantle. To date, it remains enigmatic how hydrous aluminosilicates withstand extremely high temperatures in the mantle transition zone. Here we systematically investigate the crystal structures and chemical compositions of typical hydrous aluminosilicates using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, electron probe microanalyzer, and nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry.

For the effective removal of phenol from the environment, photocatalytic synergistic adsorption is currently one of the key methods. By leveraging the polysaccharide backbone structure of sodium alginate (SA),Zinc hydroxystannate (ZHS) was introduced into the gel structure using a co-precipitation technique. Additionally, gangue waste was repurposed through a polymerization reaction.

Current level, sources, and risk of human exposure to PAHs, PBDEs and PCBs in South American outdoor air: A critical review.

Environ Res

January 2025

Institute of Science and Technology, São Paulo State University (UNESP), Av. Três de Março, 511, Alto da Boa Vista, 18087-180 Sorocaba, SP, Brazil. Electronic address:

This study provides comprehensive overview of the current level, sources and human exposure risk to hazardous polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in South American outdoor air. Research documents were obtainable for only 6 countries within the target period (2014 - 2024). For all contaminants, urban concentrations exceeded that of rural/remote locations.
