Deoxynivalenol (DON), zearalenone (ZEN), and fumonisin B (FB), as the main mycotoxins contaminating rice, often coexist in food. Thus, we have measured the genotoxicity of the three rice fungal contaminants, singly and in different combinations, with a 28-day multi-endpoint (Pig-a assay + in vivo micronucleus [MN] test + comet assay) genotoxicity platform. Male Sprague-Dawley rats received the agents orally via gavage for 28 consecutive days, before performing the abovementioned tests. Results indicated that low dose of a single mycotoxin did not show significant genotoxicity. However, some of these mycotoxins in combination induced significant genotoxicity in the peripheral blood and tissues, at sacrifice. In the peripheral blood, the binary combination of DON and FB significantly induced MN. In the liver, ZEN might aggravate the DNA-damaging effects of DON and FB. Therefore, the genotoxicity of sub-chronic exposure to mycotoxins in combination cannot be ignored.

This study aimed to provide insights into the hepatorenal toxicity induced by erythrosine, a synthetic red dye commonly used in food and pharmaceuticals, which has raised concerns over its potential health risks. Twenty-four rats were randomly divided into four groups (n = 6). The first group was the control group and the other group received one of three doses of erythrosine based on acceptable daily intake (¼ ADI, ½ ADI, and ADI, 0.

Background: Synthetic cannabinoids are one of the most identified abused drugs nowadays. Their popularity is due to their psychoactive effects, which resemble delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol. This study investigates the genotoxic potential of three synthetic cannabinoids of indazole-passed drugs, AB-Fubinaca, AMBFubinaca, and EMB-Fubinaca (at a final concentration of 200 nM).

Vanadium pentoxide (VO) is one of the compounds that have been reported to pose varying degrees of toxicity upon exposure; thus, making it a challenging environmental hazard that affects living organisms. This study investigated the cytotoxicity effects of daily sub-lethal oral doses of VO on the bone marrow of male Oryctolagus cuniculus after 21 days. Male O.

In this study, the genotoxic effects of three different bisphenols (BPAF, BPF and BPS) and their mixture were assessed in the crab Carcinus aestuarii. Crabs were exposed for 7 and 14 days to 300 ng/L of BPA analogues, alone or as a mixture (100 ng/L for each compound). After 7- and 14-day exposure, gills and hepatopancreas were sampled from crabs to evaluate damage to DNA by quantifying the levels of DNA single- and double-strand breaks.

During out-of-area military operations, the presence of carcinogenic and/or genotoxic agents has been reported, posing potential health risks to deployed soldiers. Military working dogs (MWDs), trained to detect explosives in the same environments as soldiers, could also serve as sentinel animals, providing valuable information on exposure to hazardous agents. These dogs can help identify environmental and potential adverse effects on their health and that of their handlers, possibly before relevant pathologies manifest.
