We present an efficient 976 nm laser generation from an ytterbium (Yb)-doped step-index multicore fiber (MCF) with six cores placed in a ring shape. Each of the six cores has a large-mode-area (LMA) and a low numerical aperture (NA), which makes the MCF equipped with the features of a large core-to-cladding area ratio and differential bending loss for wavelength and mode selection. Hence, the Yb-doped MCF benefits 976 nm laser generation by simultaneously suppressing unwanted 1030 nm emission and higher-order modes (HOMs). A 976 nm laser is obtained in a short piece (88 cm) of the Yb MCF, with a good slope efficiency of 46% with respect to launched pump power and the maximum output power of 25 W (pump power limited). A mode area of 1432 µm at the 976 nm is expected for the fundamental in-phase mode.

In this paper, we report the use of femtosecond radially polarized vortex laser with MHz repetition rate for direct writing of cladding waveguides (WGs) and realization of waveguide laser oscillations in ytterbium-doped calcium fluoride crystal. The negative refractive index modification in Yb:CaF crystal is fabricated by the homemade all-fiber laser amplifier. At 976 nm pump wavelength, these Yb:CaF WGs can achieve continuous-wave (CW) laser oscillation.

Clustering inevitably leads to ion quenching, one major obstacle preventing erbium-doped fibers (EDFs) from scaling to higher laser power near 15XX nm. Here, we present a new, to our knowledge, method for doping erbium into fibers through the use of Er:BaF nanoparticle (NP) precursors.

Metabolites serve as vital biomarkers, reflecting physiological and pathological states and offering insights into disease progression and early detection. This study introduces an advanced analytical technique integrating label-free Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) with deep learning, and leverages SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) to provide a visual interpretative analysis of the predictive rationale of the deep learning model, facilitating simultaneous detection and quantitative analysis of multiple metabolites. Monolayer silver nanoparticle SERS substrates were fabricated via a triple-phase interfacial self-assembly method, which captured complex spectral information of target metabolites in mixed solutions.

In this study, we present the first, to the best of our knowledge, utilization of the REPUSIL powder synthesis method to fabricate a 55 µm double-clad fiber with a remarkably large modal area. Doped solely with erbium and free of ytterbium, its estimated cladding absorption is 2 dB/m at 976 nm, enabling short amplification lengths.
