A comparative study of the orientation reaction to a sound stimulus was carried out in children with psychopathic behaviour of the affective-anxiety type of the residual-organic genesis, children with a pathocharacterological formation of the personality of the affective-anxiety type, and in normal children. The studied components of the orientation reaction included an electroencephalographic reaction of activation, vertex potentials, and skin-galvanic reaction. Children with behavioural disorders presented changes in manifestations of different components of the orientation response and impairment of their speed and order of reduction. The nature of the found alterations indicate dysfunction of the mesodiencephalic structures of the brain in these children.

Investigating the effect of geopolitical risk on defense companies' stock returns.

Heliyon

December 2024

Department of Engineering and Industrial Management, Transilvania University of Brașov, Brașov, Romania.

This study examines the influence of geopolitical risk (GPR) on the stock returns of 75 global representative defense companies. Our argument is based on the premise that the Crimean Peninsula's 2014 annexation was a turning point for the defense industry. The study uses wavelet coherence and phase differences to examine daily datasets spanning from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2023.

Ice interfaces are pivotal in mediating key chemical and physical processes such as heterogeneous chemical reactions in the environment, ice nucleation, and cloud microphysics. At the ice surface, water molecules form a quasi-liquid layer (QLL) with properties distinct from those of the bulk. Despite numerous experimental and theoretical studies, a molecular-level understanding of the QLL has remained elusive.

Traditional high-temperature fabrication methods for ceramics suffer from significant energy consumption and limit the development of advanced ceramics incorporating temperature-sensitive materials. While bioinspired mineralization provides an effective strategy to realize the room-temperature preparation of ceramics, scaling up production remains a challenge. Herein, we demonstrate a room-temperature procedure for the fabrication of large-scale ceramics by using the carbonation reaction of sodium alginate (SA)-doped γ-dicalcium silicate (γ-CS) compacts.

Tracking the correlation between spintronic structure and oxygen evolution reaction mechanism of cobalt-ruthenium-based electrocatalyst.

State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals, Frontiers Science Center for Smart Materials Oriented Chemical Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, China.

Regulating the spintronic structure of electrocatalysts can improve the oxygen evolution reaction performance efficiently. Nonetheless, the effects of tuning the spintronic structure for the oxygen evolution reaction mechanisms have rarely been discussed. Here, we show a ruthenium-cobalt-tin oxide with optimized spintronic structure due to the quantum spin interaction of Ru and Co.
