The interconnectivity between constituent nodes gives rise to cascading failure in most dynamic networks, such as a traffic jam in transportation networks and a sweeping blackout in power grid systems. Basin stability (BS) has recently garnered tremendous traction to quantify the reliability of such dynamical systems. In power grid networks, it quantifies the capability of the grid to regain the synchronous state after being perturbated. It is noted that detection of the most vulnerable node or generator with the lowest BS or N-1 reliability is critical toward the optimal decision making on maintenance. However, the conventional estimation of BS relies on the Monte Carlo (MC) method to separate the stable and unstable dynamics originated from the perturbation, which incurs immense computational cost particularly for large-scale networks. As the BS estimate is in essence a classification problem, we investigate the relevance vector machine and active learning to locate the boundary of stable dynamics or the basin of attraction in an efficient manner. This novel approach eschews the large number of sampling points in the MC method and reduces over 95% of the simulation cost in the assessment of N-1 reliability of power grid networks.

Coordinating the downstream ecological demand and the power generation demand of hydropower stations is an important task in the operation of reservoirs, and how to evaluate the ecological satisfaction of the scheduling process is a difficult problem that needs to be solved urgently. A multi-objective optimal reservoir scheduling model was constructed to coordinate the spawning flow demand of " Four Major Chinese Carps"; The model takes the maximum power generation and the maximum membership degree of downstream river ecological water demand as the objective functions, and uses the dynamic programming multi-objective solution algorithm based on penalty factors to solve the problem, and obtains the non-inferior solution set in each scenario. The multilayer entropy-weighted TOPSIS method was used to study the non-inferior solution of the multi-objective scheduling model of the Three Gorges Reservoir, and the satisfactory solution ranking of the river flow rise process, ecological flow-related requirements, and power generation water requirements was obtained under the four schemes including 4d ~ 7d, which improved the reliability of the evaluation results and made up for the shortcomings of the traditional TOPSIS method in terms of hierarchy and weight science.

As global interest grows in renewable energy sources, the impact of combined Electric Vehicle (EV) and PhotoVoltaic (PV) penetration on the power grid stability requires renewed attention, to incorporate new technologies to maintain the power quality under operational constraints. Energy-saving techniques such as Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) allow the power utilities to transmit voltage at a lower operation limit, increasing the generation margin to absorb the peak load demands. Increased reverse PV penetration results in grid overvoltage while EV charging absorbs the reactive power causing grid instability.

Microgrids play an important role in stabilizing the electrical grid and they are the best route to develop green and sustainable energy. Since microgrids are expanding rapidly, it is necessary to consider the related control issues including power quality, bidirectional power flow, voltage and frequency control, and stability analysis. One of the main measurement challenges is the communication delay.

The archipelago of Puerto Rico has faced multiple natural disasters, including hurricanes and earthquakes, disrupting the mental health and daily lives of its residents. These disasters, combined with socio-political abandonment, have led to the deterioration of the electrical grid, exacerbating health disparities. This study aimed to explore the linkages between natural and structural disasters, mental health, and energy independence in Puerto Rico.

Sugarcane smut is a widespread fungal disease, which severely impairs the quality and sugar yield of sugarcane. Early detection is crucial for mitigating its impact, which makes the development of a highly sensitive and accurate detection method essential. Herein, the Mn-doped zeolite imidazolate framework (ZIF-67), synthesized via a nano-confined-reactor approach, is designed to significantly enhance electron transport and boost the enzyme loading capacity within biofuel cells, thereby potentially enhancing their overall performance.
