Published: July 2021

To evaluate the characteristics and risk factors of puerperal hematoma. Data from the medical records of 2,776 women, who delivered vaginally between January 2008 and December 2017 in the authors' hospital, were analyzed retrospectively. Primigravida status was considered to be a significant risk factor. Among women with multigravida status, maternal age, instrumental delivery, and episiotomy were considered to be statistically significant risk factors. Regarding characteristics, hematoma occurred on the right side in 61.5% of cases, 53.8% were ≥50 mm in size, 61.5% were detected within 2 h of delivery, 46.2% were associated with severe pain, and 61.5% required surgical treatment. Primigravida status a risk factor for puerperal hematoma, and maternal age, instrumental delivery, and episiotomy were risk factors for puerperal hematoma in women with multigravida status. Puerperal hematomas occurred more frequently on the right side than the left reflected by the number of episiotomies performed on the right side. Approximately one-half of the hematomas were associated with severe pain, and many were detected within 2 h after delivery. Many hematomas, especially those associated with severe pain, required surgical removal.

The Positive Regulatory Effect of DBT on Lipid Metabolism in Postpartum Dairy Cows.

Metabolites

January 2025

Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, Sichuan Agricultural University, Chengdu 611130, China.

Background/objectives: The transition from a non-lactating to a lactating state is a critical period for lipid metabolism in dairy cows. Danggui Buxue Tang (DBT), stimulating energy metabolism, ameliorates diseases related to lipid metabolism disorders and is expected to be an effective supplement for alleviating excessive lipid mobilisation in periparturient dairy cows. This study aimed to investigate the effects of supplemental DBT on serum biochemical indices, faecal microbial communities, and plasma metabolites in dairy cows.

BACKGROUND Butorphanol, an opioid receptor agonist and antagonist, is widely used for post-cesarean section analgesia in the form of intravenous or intramuscular injection, but nasal sprays are less used. This study aimed to evaluate the analgesic effect of butorphanol nasal spray on uterine contraction pain after cesarean section and explore its effect on postpartum prolactin secretion. MATERIAL AND METHODS We randomly divided 120 patients scheduled for cesarean section into 3 groups (40 per group): intranasal saline (control), butorphanol intranasal (BI), and butorphanol pumped intravenously (BV).
