Aim: This prospective non-randomised case-control study analysed lip muscle activity after Lip Bumper (LB) treatment thought surface electromyography.

Methods: The study group was composed of 40 young patients with a mean age of 10 years and 1 month, treated with LB in the lower arch, while 40 children who did not undergo any treatment, matched for sex and age with the previous sample, constituted the control group. Measurements were performed at the beginning and after 1 year for both groups. Electromyographic recordings were obtained in rest position and during the swallowing of 50 ml of water.

Results: In the study group, after 1 year of LB treatment, a statistically significant decrease in values was found; specifically, in upper lip muscle activities at rest position with the appliance in situ (p <0.002) and both with (p <0.001) and without (p <0.001) the appliance for the lower lip.

Conclusion: One year of LB treatment significantly reduced lip muscle activities at both rest position and during swallowing compared with the untreated sample. These results indicated a potential short-term of upper and lower lip muscle adaptation to the new balance induced by LB treatment.

Reproducibility of peak force for isometric and isokinetic multi-joint leg extension exercise.

BMC Sports Sci Med Rehabil

Background: Isokinetic dynamometry is a common tool for evaluating muscle function and is used across various disciplines. Technical advancements have shifted focus towards multi-joint exercises such as the leg press, offering insights into practical human movement dynamics. However, previous reproducibility studies have focused predominantly on single-joint exercises, warranting investigations into the reliability of multi-joint exercises.

Hsa_circ_0001304 promotes vascular neointimal hyperplasia accompanied by autophagy activation.

Aberrant autophagy in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) is associated with the progression of vascular remodeling diseases caused by neointimal hyperplasia. Platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB)-induced vascular remodeling is accompanied by autophagy activation, however, the involvement of circular RNAs (circRNAs) remains unclear. Here, we show the role of PDGF-BB-regulated hsa_circ_0001304 (circ-1304) in neointimal hyperplasia and its potential involvement in VSMC autophagy, while also elucidating the potential mechanisms.

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) currently lacks effective treatment options, and the restoration of neurological function remains a major challenge, with unmet clinical needs. Research has indicated that adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) can be induced to differentiate into neural-induced adipose-derived stem cells (NI-ADSCs) under specific inductive conditions, exhibiting excellent neuroregenerative capabilities. ADSCs were obtained from female SD rats and induced into NI-ADSCs.

The inflammatory response of lung tissue and abnormal proliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells are involved in the pathogenesis of high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH). Halofuginone (HF), an active ingredient derivative of Chang Shan (Dichroa febrifuga Lour. [Hydrangeaceae]), has antiproliferative, antihypertrophic, antifibrotic, and other effects, but its protective effects on HAPH remains unclear.

Construction of a rodent neural network-skeletal muscle assembloid that simulate the postnatal development of spinal cord motor neuronal network.

Neuromuscular diseases usually manifest as abnormalities involving motor neurons, neuromuscular junctions, and skeletal muscle (SkM) in postnatal stage. Present in vitro models of neuromuscular interactions require a long time and lack neuroglia involvement. Our study aimed to construct rodent bioengineered spinal cord neural network-skeletal muscle (NN-SkM) assembloids to elucidate the interactions between spinal cord neural stem cells (SC-NSCs) and SkM cells and their biological effects on the development and maturation of postnatal spinal cord motor neural circuits.
