Oxygen is the second-largest-volume industrial gas that is mainly produced using cryogenic air separation. However, the state-of-the-art cryogenic technology thermodynamic efficiency has approached a theoretical limit as near as is practicable. Therefore, there is stimulus to develop an alternative technology for efficient oxygen separation from air. Mixed ionic electronic-conducting (MIEC) ceramic membrane-based oxygen separation technology could become this alternative, but commercialization aspects, including cost, have revealed inadequacies in ceramic membrane materials. Currently, diffusion-bubbling molten oxide membrane-based oxygen separation technology is being developed. It is a potentially disruptive technology that would propose an improvement in oxygen purity and a reduction in capital costs. Bubbles play an important role in ensuring the oxygen mass transfer in diffusion-bubbling membranes. However, there is not sufficient understanding of the bubble dynamics. This understanding is important to be able to control transport properties of these membranes and assess their potential for technological application. The aim of this feature article is to highlight the progress made in developing this understanding and specify the directions for future research.

In semiconductor catalysts, rational doping of nonmetallic elements holds significant scientific and technological importance for enhancing photocatalytic performance. Here, using a one-step hydrothermal technique, we synthesized iodine-doped BiOCl composite and evaluated the impact of iodine doping on its photocatalytic capability for organic dye degradation under visible light irradiation. In this study, we demonstrate that the introduction of iodide ions not only provides an ideal built-in electric field (BIEF) for BiOCl but also induces the generation of additional oxygen vacancies (OVs).

Piezoelectric catalytic production of HO is a novel and environmentally friendly HO production method, and many piezoelectric catalysts are currently being developed. However, all of them have the disadvantages of precious metals as cocatalysts and low catalytic efficiency. Herein, CaTiO was successfully prepared and loaded with the nonprecious metal CoP (CoP/CaTiO) for piezoelectric catalytic production of HO.

The environmental burden of tannery wastewater, characterized by high levels of total dissolved solids (TDS) and other contaminants, presents a significant challenge for sustainable water management. This study addresses this issue by developing a novel polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) composite membrane optimized for efficient TDS removal from tannery effluent. The membrane was fabricated using a solution casting technique, with glutaraldehyde employed as a crosslinking agent to enhance mechanical properties and stability.

Decidual mesenchymal stromal cells (DMSC) were the source of extracellular vesicles (DMSC_EV). The xCELLigence real-time cell growth assay revealed increasing concentrations of EVs decreased DMSC attachment in the early growth phase but stimulated DMSC proliferation at day 7 when grown on tissue culture plastic (TCP). DMSC attachment and proliferation varied depending on the growth surface and DMSC_EV supplementation.
