Thromboembolism prophylaxis after biologic aortic valve replacement (BAVR) is recommended for 3 months postoperatively. We examined the continuation of oral anticoagulation (OAC) treatment and its effect on the long-term prognosis after BAVR. We used nation-wide register data from 4,079 individuals who underwent BAVR. We examined the association between warfarin and the non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant use with death, stroke and major bleeding in 2010 - 2016. The risk of stroke was higher (HR 2.39, 95% CI 1.62 - 3.53, < 0.001) and the risk of death was lower (HR 0.79, 95% CI 0.65 - 0.96, = 0.016) in OAC-users compared to individuals without OAC. We observed no significant associations between OAC use and bleeding risk. OAC use after BAVR was associated with increased risk of stroke and decreased risk of death. These observational findings warrant validation in randomized controlled trials before any clinical conclusions can be drawn.

Bile acids (BAs) play important roles in the context of lipid homeostasis and inflammation. Based on extensive preclinical mouse studies, BA signaling pathways have been implicated as therapeutic targets for cardiovascular diseases. However, differences in BA metabolism between mice and humans hamper translation of preclinical outcomes.

Pathological myocardial hypertrophy can induce heart failure with high mortality, it is necessary to explore its pathogenesis. Tripartite motif-containing 26 (TRIM26) belongs to the multidomain E3 ubiquitin ligase family. We observed increased expression of TRIM26 in the myocardium of C57BL/6 mice subjected to transverse aortic constriction (TAC) surgery and neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs) treated with phenylephrine (PE).

Background: Current diagnostic imaging modalities have limited ability to differentiate between malignant and benign pancreaticobiliary disease, and lack accuracy in detecting lymph node metastases. F-Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) PET/CT is an imaging modality used for staging of prostate cancer, but has incidentally also identified PSMA-avid pancreatic lesions, histologically characterized as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). This phase I/II study aimed to assess the feasibility of F-PSMA PET/CT to detect PDAC.

Loss-of-function mutations in NOTCH1 were previously linked to thoracic aortopathy, a condition for which non-surgical treatment options are limited. Based on clinical proteome analysis, we hypothesized that mitochondrial fusion and biogenesis in aortic smooth muscle cells (SMCs) are crucial for regulating the progression of NOTCH1-related aortopathy. Here we demonstrate that SMC-specific Notch1 knockout mice develop aortic pathology, including stiffening, dilation and focal dissection.

Cardiac fibrosis characterized by aberrant activation of cardiac fibroblasts impairs cardiac contractile and diastolic functions, inducing the progression of the disease towards its terminal phase, resulting in the onset of heart failure. Therefore, the inhibition of cardiac fibrosis has become a promising treatment for cardiac diseases. The ovarian follicle-stimulating hormone folliculin (FLCN) plays a significant role in various biological processes, such as lysosome function, mitochondrial synthesis, angiogenesis, ciliogenesis and autophagy.
