Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a severe stroke subtype with high mortality and limited therapeutic options. The blood-brain barrier (BBB) breakdown post-ICH exacerbates secondary brain injury, highlighting the need for targeted therapies to preserve the BBB integrity. We aim to investigate the role of the Sphk1/S1P pathway in BBB breakdown following ICH and to evaluate the therapeutic potential of Sphk1 inhibition in mitigating this breakdown.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is the pathologic basis of many cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA) is a valuable natural food pigment that has been reported to have significant health-promoting abilities. However, the anti-AS efficacy and mechanisms of HSYA have not yet been characterized.

Background: Vocal fold leukoplakia (VFL) has a risk of malignant transformation, and the underlying mechanisms remain defined. It was assumed that laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) may contribute to the occurrence of VFL. Studies showed that sphingosine kinase 1 (Sphk1) was highly expressed in the gastroesophageal reflux-related gastrointestinal tumors.

Sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1) plays a crucial role in regulating metabolic pathways within adipocytes and is elevated in the adipose tissue of obese mice. While previous studies have reported both pro- and inhibitory effects of SphK1 and its product, sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), on adipogenesis, the precise mechanisms remain unclear. This study explores the timing and downstream effects of SphK1/S1P expression and activation during adipogenesis.

SPHK1 (sphingosine kinase type 1) is characterized as a rate-limiting enzyme in sphingolipid metabolism to phosphorylate sphingosine into sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) that can bind to S1P receptors (S1PRs) to initiate several signal transductions leading to cell proliferation and survival of normal cell. Many studies have indicated that SPHK1 is involved in several types of cancer development, however, a little is known in bladder cancer. The TCGA database analysis was utilized for analyzing the clinical relevance of SPHK1 in bladder cancer.
