All membrane-bound organelles are degraded during the terminal differentiation of lens fiber cells. How these organelles are degraded has been a long-standing question in biology. We recently revealed that PLAAT (phospholipase A and acyltransferase)-family phospholipases degrade organelles in the lens independently of macroautophagy. Here, we discuss the mechanism and physiological relevance of this new mode of intracellular degradation.

The steroid hormone progesterone (P4) regulates multiple aspects of reproductive and metabolic physiology. Classical P4 signaling operates through nuclear receptors that regulate transcription. In addition, P4 signals through membrane P4 receptors (mPRs) in a rapid nongenomic modality.

The immunoglobulin E (IgE) receptor FcεRI (Fc epsilon RI) plays a crucial role in allergic reactions. Recent studies have indicated that the interaction between FcεRIβ and the downstream protein phospholipase C beta 3 (PLCβ3) leads to the production of inflammatory cytokines. The aim of this study was to develop small molecules that inhibit the protein-protein interactions between FcεRIβ and PLCβ3 to treat allergic inflammation.

Polyethylene nanoplastics (NPs) are widely diffused in terrestrial environments, including soil ecosystems, but the stress mechanisms in plants are not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the effects of two increasing concentrations of NPs (20 and 200 mg kg of soil) in lettuce. To this aim, high-throughput hyperspectral imaging was combined with metabolomics, covering both primary (using NMR) and secondary metabolism (using LC-HRMS), along with lipidomics profiling (using ion-mobility-LC-HRMS) and plant performance.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a severe respiratory disease with high mortality, mainly due to overactivated oxidative stress and subsequent pyroptosis. Mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF), an inducible secretory endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress protein, inhibits lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI). However, the exact molecular mechanism remains unclear.

() has caused huge economic losses to the cattle industry. The interaction between and host cells is elucidated by screening and identifying the target protein of adhesin on the surface of the host cell membrane. However, the response mechanism of embryonic bovine lung (EBL) cells to infection is not yet fully understood.
