Published: December 2021

Delivering transformative therapies to patients while maintaining growth in the pharmaceutical industry requires an efficient use of research and development (R&D) resources and technologies to develop high-impact new molecular entities (NMEs). However, increasing global R&D competition in the pharmaceutical industry, growing impact of generics and biosimilars, more stringent regulatory requirements, as well as cost-constrained reimbursement frameworks challenge current business models of leading pharmaceutical companies. Big data-based analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) approaches have disrupted various industries and are having an increasing impact in the biopharmaceutical industry, with the promise to improve and accelerate biopharmaceutical R&D processes. Here, we systematically analyze, identify, assess, and categorize key risks across the drug discovery and development value chain using a new risk map approach, providing a comprehensive risk-reward analysis for pharmaceutical R&D.

Background: Leptospirosis is an acute zoonotic disease caused by pathogenic , primarily transmitted to humans through contact with water or soil contaminated by the bacteria. It is globally distributed, with heightened prevalence in tropical regions. While prior studies have examined the pathophysiology, epidemiology, and risk factors of leptospirosis, few have explored trends and emerging topics in the field.

Adherence to Oral Anticancer Agents Among Adults With Gastrointestinal Tract Cancer: A Scoping Review.

Cancer Nurs

January 2025

Author Affiliations: The Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin, Hong Kong (Ms Chen and Drs Ng, Zhang, and Chan); and Nursing Department, People's Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi Academy of Medical Sciences, Nanning, China (Ms Chen).

Background: Patients with gastrointestinal tract cancer reported suboptimal adherence to oral anticancer agents (OAAs), reducing their therapeutic benefit and increasing mortality risk. A scoping review can comprehensively map available evidence on adherence to OAAs and inform appropriate support to improve treatment outcomes.

Objective: The aim of this study was to comprehensively map studies on adherence to OAAs among adults with gastrointestinal tract cancer, including the adherence rate, nonadherence reasons, influential factors, management strategies, and theories that guide these studies.

Background: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) represents a significant clinical concern, particularly in aging populations, and recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have catalyzed substantial research interest in this domain. Despite the growing body of literature, there remains a need for a comprehensive, quantitative analysis to delineate key trends and emerging areas in the field of AI applications in AMD. This bibliometric analysis sought to systematically evaluate the landscape of AI-focused research on AMD to illuminate publication patterns, influential contributors, and focal research trends.

Objective: To investigate the distribution of snails in different water systems in Anqing City from 2016 to 2022, so as to provide insights into snail control in the city.

Methods: Snail survey data and distribution of water systems in snail-infested environments were collected from schistosomiasis-endemic areas of Anqing City from 2016 to 2022. The vector maps of towns and water systems in Anqing City were downloaded from National Geomatics Center of China.

Objective: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and spatial distribution characteristics of human infections in Guangdong Province from 2016 to 2022, so as to provide insights into formulation of the clonorchiasis control measures in the province.

Methods: Xinhui District of Jiangmen City, Longmen County of Huizhou City and Wengyuan County of Shaoguan City in Guangdong Province were selected as fixed surveillance sites for human clonorchiasis from 2016 to 2022, and additional 10% to 15% counties (districts) endemic for clonorchiasis were sampled from Guangdong Province as mobile surveillance sites each year from 2016 to 2022. A village (community) was randomly selected from each surveillance site according to the geographical orientations of east, west, south, north and middle, and subjects were randomly sampled from each village (community).
