The journal "Aging and Disease" has released a special issue focused on novel concepts in understanding the pathophysiology and treatment of neurological and neurodegenerative disorders. The special issue comprises review and original research articles discussing the various disease mechanisms and/or treatment updates on aging, mild cognitive impairment, dementia, acute stroke, pediatric stroke, super-refractory status epilepticus, reflex epilepsy, drug-resistant epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and traumatic brain injury. The Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) is a classic test used to assess episodic verbal memory in research and clinical practice. We aimed to adapt the RAVLT materials into Russian, provide performance norms across the adult lifespan for the Russian adaptation, and develop a mobile application for automated RAVLT administration across languages. We created three psycholinguistically matched alternative versions of the RAVLT materials in Russian and incorporated them into a new tablet application.

Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Treatments for TBI patients are limited and none has been shown to provide prolonged and long-term neuroprotective or neurorestorative effects. A growing body of evidence suggests a link between TBI-induced neuro-inflammation and neurodegenerative post-traumatic disorders.

Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection, is a chronic inflammatory disease. Although typically associated with inflammation of the lungs and other peripheral tissues, increasing evidence has uncovered neurological consequences attributable to Mtb infection. These include deficits in memory and cognition, increased risk for neurodegenerative disease, and progressive neuropathology.

Cannabis-based medicine (CBM) is used in a wide variety of different neurological disorders. While the use of CBM in the treatment of pain, AIDS wasting, loss of appetite, and spasticity is well established, CBM application in movement disorders and neurodegenerative disorders is still an emerging topic. The purpose of this chapter is to summarize current evidence behind the use of CBM in selected neurological diseases, mainly movement and neurodegenerative disorders.
