We successfully demonstrated the effect of a membrane reactor for methanol synthesis to improve one-pass CO conversion. An Si-rich LTA membrane for dehydration from a methanol synthesis reaction field was synthesized by the seed-assisted hydrothermal synthesis method. The HO permselective performance of the membrane showed 1.5 × 10 mol m s Pa as HO permeance and around 2000 as selectivity of HO/MeOH at 473 K. From the results of membrane reactor tests, the CO conversion of the membrane reactor was higher than that of the conventional packed-bed reactor under the all of experimental conditions. Especially, at 4 MPa of reaction pressure, the conversion using the membrane reactor was around 60%. In the case of using a packed-bed reactor, the conversion was 20% under the same conditions. In addition, the calculated and experimental conversion were in good agreement in both the case of the membrane reactor and packed-bed reactor.

In flow-through reactors, the photodegradation rate can be improved by enhancing contact and increasing the photocatalyst loading. Both can be attained with a higher surface-to-volume ratio. While previous studies focused on thin membranes (30 - 130 µm) with small pore sizes of 20 - 650 nm, this work employed poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) supports, of which pore sizes are in the order of 10 µm, while the porosities and thicknesses are variable (22.

Energy from renewable resources has been growing in popularity, which ultimately helps reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and contaminants. Since hydrogen (H) has a higher combustion production of energy than hydrocarbon fuels, it has been identified as a clean, sustainable, and environmentally friendly energy source. There are several benefits to producing biohydrogen (bioH) from renewable sources, including lower cost and increased sustainability.

Microwave electrodeless ultraviolet (MWUV) technology, as an emerging food processing technique, has garnered growing attention in the realm of food science in recent years. Based on different application requirements, MWUV equipment types are categorized as microwave oven reactor, continuous-flow UV-microwave reactor, coaxially driven MWUV reactor, and complete ultraviolet reactor. The luminescence properties of MWUV equipment depend on their filler gas; mercury is commonly used as a filler gas to produce a wavelength at 253.

Department of Hydrogen and Electrochemistry, Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho Falls, ID 83415, United States.

Article Synopsis
  • Using a protonic ceramic electrocatalytic membrane reactor, methane is converted into higher-value chemicals like benzene with high efficiency and minimal emissions.
  • The system achieved a 15.6% methane conversion rate and an 11.4% benzene yield, which outperform traditional thermochemical methods by 15.7% and 16.0%, respectively.
  • The reactor also effectively removes hydrogen, maintaining stable operation for 45 hours and allowing for catalyst regeneration, presenting a promising solution for reducing carbon impact in chemical processing.
