Expanded CD4+CD28 T lymphocytes are found in the tissues and peripheral blood of patients with many autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). These highly differentiated cells present potent inflammatory activity and capability to induce tissue destruction, which has been suggested to predispose to the development of more aggressive disease. In fact, preferential migration to inflammatory sites has been proposed to be a contributing factor in the progression of autoimmune and cardiovascular diseases frequently found in these patients. The functional activity of CD4+CD28 T lymphocytes is largely dependent on interleukin 15 (IL-15), and this cytokine may also act as a selective attractor of these cells to local inflammatory infiltrates in damaged tissues. We have analysed, in RA patients, the migratory properties and transcriptional motility profile of CD4+CD28 T lymphocytes compared to their counterparts CD28+ T lymphocytes and the enhancing role of IL-15. Identification of the pathways involved in this process will allow us to design strategies directed to block effector functions that CD4+CD28 T lymphocytes have in the target tissue, which may represent therapeutic approaches in this immune disorder.

Characteristics of peripheral lymphocyte subsets and antibodies in COVID-19-infected kidney transplantation recipients.

Background: Peripheral lymphocyte subsets play vital roles in various disease conditions. However, the roles of kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) with novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) are still unclear. In this research, we investigated the predictive value of peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets on the severity of KTRs with COVID-19 and the correlation between antibodies and lymphocyte levels.

Prior research has documented the association between certain circulating inflammatory proteins/immune cells and gout. However, the reliability of these associations remains contentious due to the constraints of conventional observational methodologies. This investigation seeks to reassess the causative link between circulating inflammatory proteins/immune cells and gout through the application of Mendelian randomization (MR).

Lynch syndrome is rarely associated with rectal cancer (RC) and thus, metachronous RC has been scarcely investigated. This study aimed to analyze the mucosal immune microenvironment in sporadic and metachronous RC. We analyzed the mucosal immune microenvironment in the 25 metachronous RCs present in the IMMUNOREACT 1 and 2 multicentre observational studies (624 patients).

Studies have shown that immune cells play an important role in the occurrence and development of pertussis, but the specific causal relationships are yet to be determined. Additionally, inflammatory cytokines, as regulators of immune responses, may mediate the relationship between immune cells and pertussis, and the specific mechanisms involved require further exploration. This study utilizes data from multiple large-scale genome-wide association studies, covering 731 types of immune cells and 91 types of inflammatory cytokines.

Background: Co-stimulatory and co-inhibitory molecules are critical to T cell responses and involved in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the surface expression of these molecules in various phenotypic immune cells, comparing the differences between various levels of the severity in SLE and control groups.

Methods: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated using Ficoll-Paque from blood samples of severe SLE patients (treatment with immunosuppressants), mild SLE patients (excluding those with persistent proteinuria or thrombocytopenia), and healthy controls ( = 10 each).
