Excessive foot pronation has been reported as being related to chronic low back pain symptoms and risk factors in sports-specific pathologies. Compensating custom-made foot orthotics treatment has not been entirely explored as an effective therapy for chronic low back pain (CLBP). This study aims to observe the effects of custom-made foot orthoses, in subjects with foot pronation suffering from CLBP. A total of 101 patients with nonspecific CLBP and a pronated foot posture index (FPI) were studied. They were randomized in two groups: an experimental one ( = 53) used custom-made foot orthotics, and the control group ( = 48) were treated with non-biomechanical effect orthoses. The CLBP was measured using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) Questionnaire and a visual analogue scale (VAS), both for lower back pain. The symptoms were evaluated twice, at first when the subject was included in the study, and later, after 4 weeks of treatment. The analysis of outcomes showed a significant decrease in CLBP in the custom-made foot orthoses participants group ( < 0.001 ODI; < 0.001 VAS). These findings suggest that controlling excessive foot pronation by using custom-made foot orthoses may significantly contribute to improving CLBP.

Background: Normal dorsiflexion of the first metatarsophalangeal joint during dynamic activities is critical for effective propulsion. Therapeutic foot orthotics may address the pathomechanical loading and joint kinematics issues faced by this population. This study aims to evaluate the effect of two different types of Custom-made foot orthosis compared to shod condition on the stiffness of the rearfoot, midfoot, and 1st metatarsophalangeal joint during walking in patients with Structural Hallux Limitus.

The purpose of this study was to establish typical dose values at orthopaedic operating rooms of the Larnaca General Hospital (LGH). Kerma area product (KAP), fluoroscopy time (FT) and cumulative air-kerma (K) measurements were collected for 821 patients who underwent common and reproducible trauma surgery over a five-year period, with three mobile C-arm systems; two equipped with an image-intensifier and one with a flat-panel detector. Dose indices were automatically extracted from radiation dose structured reports or DICOM meta-data files archived in the PACS, using custom-made software.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the effects of three types of therapeutic offloading diabetic shoes (prefabricated, relasting, and double rocker-modified) on peak plantar pressure in individuals with Charcot foot deformity, a complication of diabetes involving neuropathy.
  • - Involving 15 participants with Charcot neuropathy, the research measures plantar pressure during walking to assess how different shoes impact pressure distribution in the forefoot, midfoot, and hindfoot.
  • - Results show that while the double rocker-modified shoe increased forefoot pressure slightly, it significantly reduced midfoot pressure compared to other shoes, indicating varied effects on plantar pressure distribution.

Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Science, Ankara Medipol University, Ankara, Türkiye.

Objective: The available evidence on orthosis management in the knee osteoarthritis (KOA) remains questionable. This study aims to evaluate existing recommendations and achieve consensus on their implementation through the modified Delphi method.

Methods: Experienced experts in orthosis management for KOA patients participated in three Delphi rounds.
