Article Abstract

The intensive development of the Yellow River Delta has caused huge transportation of non-point pollutants into the Bohai Sea through source river estuaries and thus poses a considerable threat to eco-environmental security in the region. Long-term irrigation in the Yellow River basin, with occasional heavy rainfall and the related effects of ensuring hydrological processes and human activities in terms of nitrate N transport via surface water systems, is unclear. Using stable isotope (δH-HO and δO-HO, δN-NO and δO-NO) and auxiliary geographic data, the ISO source model was run to quantitatively analyze the supply relationship of river systems and the rapid change in the spatial pattern of nitrate N due to heavy rainfall in the estuarine delta. This analysis made clear the dominant contribution of agricultural activities and urbanization to NO-N emission, on which basis refined management measures were proposed to deal with NO in surface water from the "source-process". The results of the study show that: (1) The relationship of surface water replenishment in the Yellow River Delta was affected not only by rainfall, irrigation, and other water conservancy measures but also the proportion of water from Yellow River flow declined from the source to estuary; (2) To a certain extent, rainfall diluted the concentration of nitrate N in the river and increased instantaneous flux of nitrate N into the sea, where nitrate N flux continuously increased from upstream to downstream; (3) The rapid deposition of nitrate in the estuary delta was driven by heavy rainfall and human activities such as excessive use of nitrogen fertilizers, rapid urbanization, and livestock waste discharge, and; (4) Scientific measures were needed to realize the interactive effect of the output of non-point source pollutants and the carrying and absorption capacity of coastal fragile ecosystems of the exogenous inputs.

The optical detection of arsenic (As) in human biological fluids and environmental water samples is presented using alpha-cyclodextrin-modified silver nanoparticles (α/CyD-AgNPs) at the trace level. This method is based on the measurement of a red shift of the LSPR band of α/CyD-AgNPs in the region of 200-800 nm. The color of α/CyD-AgNPs was changed from yellow to colorless by the addition of As(iii).

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is known to release allelopathic substances to affect the germination and growth of other plants, which have the potential to be applied in controlling weeds. Green foxtail (Setaria viridis) and barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli), as malignant weeds worldwide, also pose a serious threat to alfalfa in northern China. In this study, the sensitivity of the two weeds to the extracts from the first, second, and third stubbles of six varieties were investigated to further reveal the allelopathic interference of different varieties of alfalfa on notorious weeds.

Excessive heavy metals (HMs) exposure in surface soils may cause non-negligible health risks to human beings; however, the potential health risk assessment of HMs in Yellow River Delta wetland (YRDW) soils has rarely been evaluated. In this study, we sampled surface wetland soils from ten typical functional areas in YRDW, assessed the HMs pollution status, evaluated their potential health risks, stimulated their probabilistic distributions of health risks and analyzed their potential source apportionment using Positive matrix factorization and Monte Carlo simulation. Enrichment factor (EF) and geo-accumulation index (I) indicated significant anthropogenic impacts, particularly in oil-contaminated sites, while Sediment Quality Guidelines (SQGs) comparison results suggested potential ecological risks, especially for As and Ni, which were occasionally above threshold effect levels.

Single- and multi-locus genome-wide association study reveals genomic regions of thirteen yield-related traits in common wheat.

BMC Plant Biol

College of Agronomy, Anhui Agricultural University, Key Laboratory of Wheat Biology and Genetic Improvement On Southern Yellow & Huai River Valley, Ministry of Agriculture, Hefei, 230036, Anhui, China.

Genetic dissection of yield-related traits can be used to improve wheat yield through molecular design breeding. In this study, we genotyped 245 wheat varieties and measured 13 yield-related plant height-, grain-, and spike-related traits, in seven environments, and identified 778 loci for these traits by genome-wide association study (GWAS) using single- and multi-locus models. Among these loci, nine were major, of which seven were novel, including Qph/lph.

An efficient dual-state blue-emitting zinc-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), designated as UoZ-8 has been developed. Coordination-induced emission causes the UoZ-8 to give the blue emission in both solid and dispersed form in liquid. Upon the addition of tetracycline (TC), a noticeable shift from blue emission to greenish-yellow emission occurred, with a marked increase in intensity, which was attributed to the inner filter effect accompanied by aggregation-induced emission (IFE-AIE).
