This retrospective cohort study identified patients who underwent video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) lobectomy for lung cancer from January 2016 to December 2018 in a Chinese tertiary general hospital. The electronic hospital medical records associated with the VATS lobectomy for lung cancer were the data sources. Based on the analysis of 433 patients with the utilization of staplers in their VATS lobectomy for lung cancer, using powered stapler was associated with significantly shorter operation time and postsurgery hospital stay length than using the manual stapler in the multivariable generalized linear regression analyses with the adjustment of patient characteristics. However, no other significant differences were observed for other clinical outcomes between the two staplers.
