Maraviroc/cisplatin combination inhibits gastric cancer tumoroid growth and improves mice survival.

Biol Res

January 2025

Laboratory of Integrative Biology (LIBi), Centro de Excelencia en Medicina Traslacional (CEMT), Scientific and Technological Bioresource Nucleus (BIOREN), Universidad de La Frontera, Temuco, Chile.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is a significant cancer-related cause of death worldwide. GC's most used chemotherapeutic regimen is based on platinum drugs such as cisplatin (CDDP). However, CDDP chemoresistance reduces the survival rate of advanced GC.

Effects of an Institute for Healthcare Improvement Course on Students' Attitudes About Quality Improvement.

Nurs Educ Perspect

November 2024

About the Author Mary Kathryn Gaffney, EdD, RN, is associate professor, University of South Carolina Aiken School of Nursing, Aiken, South Carolina. For more information, contact her at

Despite nurse faculty efforts to cultivate attitudes related to safety and quality, practicing nurses often do not report errors or risk, suggesting the competency is underdeveloped. During a longitudinal, prospective study of four baccalaureate cohorts, students completed the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Basic Certificate in Quality and Safety Course (BCQSC). BCQSC modules were embedded across the five-semester program.

Teaching high quality paediatric basic life support to laypeople: The development and evaluation of a virtual simulation game.

Resusc Plus

January 2025

Department of Paediatrics, Division of Paediatric Critical Care, CHEO, 401 Smyth Rd, Ottawa, Ontario K1H 8L1, Canada.

Background: Self-directed training has been recognized as a reasonable alternative to traditional instructor-led formats to teach laypeople Basic Life Support (BLS). Virtual tools can facilitate high-quality self-directed resuscitation education; however, their role in teaching paediatric BLS remains unclear due to limited empiric evaluation and suboptimal design of existing tools.

Aim: We describe the development and evaluation of a virtual simulation game (VSG) designed to teach high-quality paediatric BLS using a self-directed, online format with integrated deliberate practice and feedback.

Background And Aim: Zinc oxide and copper oxide nanoparticles are known for their promising biological activities. This study aims to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles and copper-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles to harness the combined cytotoxic and anticancer effects of them in vitro and in vivo studies.

Methods: Zinc oxide nanoparticles, both doped and undoped, were synthesized using a chemical co-precipitation method.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the predominant form of lung cancer and poses a significant public health challenge. Early detection is crucial for improving patient outcomes, with serum biomarkers such as carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCCAg), and cytokeratin fragment 19 (CYFRA 21-1) playing a critical role in early screening and pathological classification of NSCLC. However, due to being mainly based on corresponding antibody binding reactions, existing detection technologies for these serum biomarkers have shortcomings such as complex operations, high false positive rates, and high costs.
