Introduction: Proximal femur replacement (PFR) in the setting of tumor resection is associated with a high rate of postoperative complication. The online American College of Surgeons-National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) surgical risk calculator is approved by the Center of Medicare and Medicaid services to estimate 30-day postoperative complications. This study was to determine if the ACS-NSQIP can predict postoperative complications following PFR.
Methods: We reviewed 103 (61 male and 42 female) patients undergoing PFR using the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes available in the calculator: 27125 (hemiarthroplasty), 27130 (total hip), 27132 (conversion to total hip), 27134 (revision total hip), 27137 (revision acetabulum), 27138 (revision femur), and 27365 (excision tumor hip). The predicted rates of complications were compared with the observed rates.
Results: Complications occurred in 54 (52%) of patients, with the predicted risk based on CPT codes: 27125 (21.5%); 27130 (7.8%); 27132 (16.6%), 27134 (17.8%), 27137 (14.4%), 274138 (22.7%), and 27365 (16.2%). The calculator was a poor predictor of complications (27125, area under the curve [AUC] 0.576); (27130, AUC 0.489); (27132, AUC 0.490); (27134, AUC 00.489); (27137, AUC 0.489); (27138, AUC 0.471); and (27365, AUC 0.538).
Conclusion: Oncologic PFR is known for complications. The ACS-NSQIP does not adequately predict the incidence of complications, and therefore cannot reliably be used in their shared decision-making process preoperative.

Background: Aortic dissection occurs rarely during pregnancy but carries a significantly high vital risk for both the mother and the fetus. Early diagnosis and treatment are critical for a successful outcome.
Case Presentation: A 32-year-old pregnant woman at 31 weeks of gestation began experiencing shortness of breath, chest pain, and palpitations, which were attributed to an anxiety disorder she had been previously diagnosed with.

Background: Ulinastatin (UTI), recognized for its anti-inflammatory properties, holds promise for patients undergoing cardiac surgery. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between intraoperative UTI administration and the incidence of delirium following cardiac surgery.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on a retrospective cohort of 6,522 adult cardiac surgery patients to evaluate the relationship between UTI treatment and the incident of postoperative delirium (POD) in patients ongoing cardiac surgery.

Background: To analyze the effects of the positioning of a bolt in the femoral neck system (FNS) on the short-term outcomes of middle-aged and young adults with displaced femoral neck fractures (FNFs).
Methods: This was a retrospective study involving 114 middle-aged and young adults with displaced FNFs who were surgically treated with internal fixation via the FNS in the Department of Orthopedics, Suzhou Municipal Hospital, from December 2019 to January 2023. The degree of deviation of the central axis of the femoral head and neck from the tip of the bolt (W), the tip‒apex distance (TAD) and the length of femoral neck shortening (LFNS) were measured on postoperative X-ray and computed tomography (CT) scan images.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic affected healthcare systems worldwide, disrupting elective surgeries including those for cancer treatment. This study examines the effects of the pandemic on outcomes of pancreatic cancer surgeries at a specialized high-volume surgery center.
Materials And Methods: This study compared surgical volume and outcomes of pancreas resections between the pre-pandemic (January 2019 to February 2020), early pandemic (March 2020 to January 2021), and late pandemic (February 2021 to December 2021) periods.

The choice between total thyroidectomy (TT) and subtotal thyroidectomy (STT) can affect postoperative complications and long-term outcomes in these patients. This study aimed to investigate postoperative complications and long-term outcomes in patients who underwent TT and STT. This retrospective study investigated 1.
