Understanding its dynamics is important both for conservation purposes and to determine its role as an evolutionary mechanism. Small molecule inhibitors of the sodium channel are common pharmacological agents used to treat a variety of cardiac and nervous system pathologies. They act on the channel via binding within the pore to directly block the sodium conduction pathway and/or modulate the channel to favor a non-conductive state. Despite their abundant clinical use, we lack specific knowledge of their protein-drug interactions and the subtle variations between different compound structures.

Achieving safe and efficient gene therapy hinges upon the inspection of genomes enclosed within individual nano-carriers to mitigate potential health risks associated with empty or fragment-filled vectors. Here solid-state nanopore sensing is reported for identifications of intermediate adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors in liquid. The method exploits the phenomenon of translocation slowdown induced by the viscosity of salt water-organic mixtures.

As natural resources continue to be exploited, dense medium cyclones (DMCs) are increasingly utilized for the preconcentration of low-grade ores to meet the demands for higher feed grade, increased processing capacity, and reduced energy consumption. However, determining the optimal fineness of ferrosilicon remains ambiguous for different types of ores and is often described as more of an art than a science. This paper investigates the subtle effects of ferrosilicon fineness on flow field characteristics, medium classification, and the ore separation process using a validated numerical approach, which integrates a two-fluid model, a turbulence dispersion model, and a discrete phase model.

H and F spin-lattice relaxation experiments have been performed for a series of ionic liquids: [HMIM][TFSI], [OMIM][TFSI], and [DMIM][TFSI] including the same anion and cations with progressively longer alkyl chains. The experiments were performed in a wide frequency range from 10 kHz to 10 MHz (referring to the H resonance frequency) versus temperature. This extensive data set has been analyzed in terms of a theoretical model including all relevant homonuclear (H-H and F-F) and heteronuclear (H-F) relaxation pathways and linking the relaxation features to the relative translational diffusion between the ion pairs (cation-cation, cation-anion, and anion-anion).
