Collagen type VI is the antigen recognized by the ER-TR7 antibody.

Eur J Immunol

Published: September 2021

The monoclonal antibody ER-TR7 was used in a great number of studies for detecting reticular fibroblasts and the ECM of lymphoid and non-lymphoid organs even if the protein recognized by the ER-TR7 antibody was not known. We have now identified native collagen VI microfibrils as its tissue antigen.

The meningeal space is a critical brain structure providing immunosurveillance for the central nervous system (CNS), but the impact of infections on the meningeal immune landscape is far from being fully understood. The extracellular protozoan parasite Trypanosoma brucei, which causes human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) or sleeping sickness, accumulates in the meningeal spaces, ultimately inducing severe meningitis and resulting in death if left untreated. Thus, sleeping sickness represents an attractive model to study immunological dynamics in the meninges during infection.

Golli-myelin basic proteins delineate the nerve distribution of lymphoid organs.

J Neuroimmunol

Developmental Biology Group, Neuropsychiatric Institute, University of California, Los Angeles, Medical School, Los Angeles, CA 90024, USA.

The golli-myelin basic proteins (MBPs) have been known to mark the nerve fiber extensions in both the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and the central nervous system. In this paper, we show that the nerve fibers revealed by neurofilament (NF) antibody staining in thymus and spleen, colocalized with golli in the capsular, trabecular (tr), and vasculature (v) systems. In the thymus, the density of these fibers was greater in the medulla than in the cortex.

We have produced a panel of monoclonal antibodies directed against nonlymphoid cells in central and peripheral lymphoid organs. In this paper we present the reactivity of one of these antibodies, ER-TR7. This antibody detects reticular fibroblasts, which constitute the cellular framework of lymphoid and nonlymphoid organs and their products.
