Purpose: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) and Cardiovascular Dysfunctioning (CVD) are interlinked with each other and one of the leading causes of irreversible renal damage and cardiovascular disease. Micronutrients play an effective role in type-2 diabetes (T2D) and its related complications. Our work aimed to elucidate the effect of micronutrients alone and in combination with standard anti-diabetic drug metformin on DN and CVD using streptozotocin induced diabetes in rats.
Methods: T2D was induced with a single intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of freshly prepared streptozotocin (55 mg/kg), 15 min after intraperitoneal injection of nicotinamide (230 mg/kg). Commercially available kits were used to measure kidney parameters and cardiac marker level. Creatinine clearance was calculated by using formula and heart rate was recorded using powerlab software.
Results: Significant decrease in blood glucose levels were observed 14 days after initial administration in metformin treated, micronutrients treated and metformin with micronutrients treated groups compared with diabetic group. After 6 weeks of metformin and micronutrients treatment, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels were significantly decreased as compared to diabetic group. Moreover, urine creatinine level, creatinine clearance and heart rate (HR) was increased significantly in metformin and micronutrients treated group compared with a diabetic group. Micronutrients therapy also normalised the general symptoms of diabetes.
Conclusion: The results obtained from this study indicate the synergistic effect of metformin and micronutrients against diabetic heart and kidney. Therefore, micronutrients may be used as an effective add-on therapy for DN and CVD.

Pemetrexed is a folate analog inhibitor for the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Prophylactic supplementation with vitamin B and folic acid reduces hematotoxicity associated with pemetrexed. Metformin, the antidiabetic agent, has been associated with the potential side effect of vitamin B deficiency.

Thiamine and pyridoxine are essential B vitamins that serve as enzymatic cofactors in energy metabolism, protein and nucleic acid biosynthesis, and neurotransmitter production. In humans, thiamine transporters SLC19A2 and SLC19A3 primarily regulate cellular uptake of both vitamins. Genetic mutations in these transporters, which cause thiamine and pyridoxine deficiency, have been implicated in severe neurometabolic diseases.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy and safety of metformin, anti-obesity agents, and inositol with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov for studies published in English up to October 26, 2024.

Metformin, an insulin-sensitizer, is used in the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in obese women as it helps in weight loss and regularizes the menstrual cycle. However, impaired absorption of Vitamin B12 due to metformin has also been hypothesized. Here, we report the case of a 39-year-old woman prescribed metformin for PCOS, presenting with an unusual symptom of eyelid myokymia.

Background: Antenatal care strategies (ANC) play a pivotal role in ensuring a healthy gestational period for expectant mothers and promote optimal outcomes for their babies. Implementing these interventions can contribute to a supportive environment for pregnant women, resulting in positive perinatal and neonatal outcomes.
Summary: We summarize evidence for a total of twenty-seven interventions pertaining to ANC from Every Newborn Series published in The Lancet 2014 by identifying the most recent systematic reviews, extracting data from each review, and conducting a subgroup analysis for low-income and lower-middle-income countries (LMICs) for outcomes relevant to maternal and neonatal health.
