The purpose of the present meta-analysis was to examine the effect of flywheel resistance training (FRT) on main sport action (i.e., jumping performance, sprinting time and change of direction performance) improvements in athletes and healthy active people. A Boolean search strategy adapted for each of the databases employed was conducted to identify all studies measuring change in sport actions performance after FRT interventions up to July 2019. Outcomes were analysed using an average effect size (D) and a 95% confidence interval (CI), which was calculated assuming a random-effects model. A total of 9 studies with 283 participants met the inclusion criteria and were selected for the analysis. The mean quality score (PEDro scale) of the articles included in the meta-analysis was 5.67. The meta-analysis showed significant positive effects on jumping performance (SMC 0.65; 95% CI, 0.11-1.19; p = 0.02), sprinting time (SMC 1.33; 95% CI, 0.39-2.28; p < 0.01) and change of direction performance (SMC 1.36; 95% CI, 0.58-2.14; p < 0.01) after FRT interventions compared to control/traditional resistance training groups. The results of the present meta-analysis provide evidence of the usefulness of FRT to improve variables related to sport performance in athletes and healthy population.

Purpose: To conduct a formative evaluation of ChatEx to increase and maintain exercise among older cancer survivors.

Methods: ChatEx is a blended intervention involving 12 weeks of theory-based instant messages and two in-person training sessions. This pilot study comprises three phases: (1)intervention development: developing a message library reviewed by experts; (2)message library pretesting: exploring the views of older cancer survivors toward the message library and making modifications (n = 20); and (3)intervention pilot testing: piloting the ChatEx using a non-randomized quasi-experimental design using quantitative and qualitative methods among cancer survivors aged 65+ who do not meet current exercise guidelines and have completed treatment (n = 40).

Differential effects of exercise training protocols on blood pressures and lipid profiles in older adults patients with hypertension: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Arch Gerontol Geriatr

December 2024

M2S (Laboratoire Mouvement, Sport, Santé), Université Rennes, Rennes, France; Institut International des Sciences du Sport (2I2S), Irodouer 35850, France. Electronic address:

Decreased physical activity and high blood pressure are both risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Controlling blood pressure within the normal range can prevent or delay these complications. This systematic review and meta-analysis analyzed the effects of different types of exercise training on the blood pressure and lipid profiles of older adults patients with hypertension.

Role of exercise on pain, functional capacity, and inflammatory biomarkers in osteoarthritis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Ann Phys Rehabil Med

January 2025

Unit of Physical Exercise and Sport Sciences, Department of Movement, Human and Health Sciences, University of Rome «Foro Italico», Piazza Lauro De Bosis 15, 00135, Rome, Italy. Electronic address:

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a complex disease that causes pain, stiffness and swelling, limiting function and mobility, thus interfering with daily life and affecting personal, social, and psychological aspects of life.

Objective: To evidence the role of exercise on pain reduction and the effectiveness of one type of training over another in terms of pain, functional capacity, and inflammatory biomarkers in OA.

Methods: Studies retrieved from Web of Science, PubMed and Scopus databases were systematically reviewed.

Background: There is no strong evidence demonstrating whether or not aerobic exercise in conjunction with resistance exercise improves metabolic diabetes markers in postmenopausal women.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of aerobic exercise and resistance training on metabolic markers in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) by means of a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Methods: The searches were completed using EMBASE, MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases.

: To assess the effects of a two-week course of intensive impairment-oriented arm rehabilitation for chronic stroke survivors on motor function. : An observational cohort study that enrolled chronic stroke survivors (≥6 months after stroke) with mild to severe arm paresis, who received a two-week course of impairment-oriented and technology-supported arm rehabilitation (1:1 participant-therapist setting), which was carried out daily (five days a week) for four hours. The outcome measures were as follows: the primary outcome was the arm motor function of the affected arm (mild paresis: BBT, NHPT; severe paresis: Fugl-Meyer arm motor score).
