Lumbar spinal surgery relies on palpation of anatomical landmarks and X-ray imaging confirmation to identify the correct spinal level, therefore exposing patients and staff to radiation, and increasing intraoperative time and cost. Ultrasound (US) assistance is being used to visualise spinal anatomy by many specialities, such as neurology and anaesthetics, and can be used intraoperatively in selected spinal surgery cases. However, its potential use to check spinal levels prior to surgery remains understudied.

They are minimized by truncating the initial grates, which deflect reflected light at an oblique angle and excite higher-order modes in the tapered waveguide that is filtered out. Insertion losses resulting from this modification of the grating coupler are mitigated by an adaptive redesign of the grates that corrects incurred errors in the generated phase front.

Background: The prevalence of diabetes is escalating globally, underscoring the need for comprehensive evidence to inform health systems in effectively addressing this epidemic. The purpose of this study was to examine the patterns of countries' capacity to manage diabetes using latent class analysis (LCA) and to determine whether the patterns are associated with diabetes-related deaths and healthcare costs.
Methods: Eight indicators of country-level capacity were drawn from the World Health Organization Global Health Observatory dataset: the widespread availability of hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) testing, existence of diabetes registry, national diabetes management guidelines, national strategy for diabetes care, blood glucose testing, diabetic retinopathy screening, sulfonylureas, and metformin in the public health sector.

One of the applications is the enzymatic hydrolysis of waste oils. This work consists of evaluating the production of lipases using several concentrations of residual frying oil (RFO) and different pHs, through ANOVA analysis.
