To address the urgent need for treating recurrent infection, antibiotics that selectively target over common gut microbiota are needed. We herein describe the class of picolinamide antibacterials which show potent and selective activity against . The structure-activity relationship of 108 analogues of isonicotinamide , a compound that is equally active against methicillin-resistant and , was investigated. Introduction of the picolinamide core as exemplified by analogue resulted in exquisite potency and selectivity against . The ability of the picolinamide class to selectively target and to prevent gut dysbiosis holds promise for the treatment of recurrent infection.

Treated effluent of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are major sources of extracellular antimicrobial resistance genes (eARGs) into aquatic environments. This study aimed to clarify the fate and origins of eARGs from influent to treated effluent at a full-scale WWTP. The compositions of eARG and intracellular ARG (iARG) were acquired via shotgun metagenomic sequencing in influent wastewater, activated sludge, and treated effluent of the target WWTP, where identical wastewater was treated by conventional activated sludge (CAS) and membrane bioreactor (MBR) processes.

This study aimed to investigate the direct association between domestic violence and the indirect association of exposure through pregnancy, delivery, and neonatal risk factors with severe maternal morbidity (SMM). The target population of this case-control study included all women who gave birth in the hospitals of the Torbat Heidarieh University of Medical Science from June 2018 to May 2020. A total of 123 mothers with SMM according to the World Health Organization criteria were selected as cases, and 127 mothers who did not meet the World Health Organization criteria were included in the control group.

Background: To assess the impact of attaining aggressive beta-lactam pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) targets on clinical efficacy in critical orthotopic liver transplant (OLT) recipients with documented early Gram-negative infections.

Methods: OLT recipients admitted to the post-transplant ICU between June 2021 and May 2024 having documented Gram-negative infections treated with targeted therapy continuous infusion (CI) beta-lactams, and undergoing therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM)-guided beta-lactam dosing adjustment in the first 72 hours were prospectively enrolled. Free steady-state concentrations (fCss) of beta-lactams (BL) and/or of beta-lactamase inhibitors (BLI) were calculated, and aggressive PK/PD target attainment was measured.
