Water pollution and crisis of freshwater is one of the most alarming concern globally, which threatens the development and survival of living beings. Recycling of contaminated water has been the prime demand of 21 century as the area of contamination in natural waterbodies increasing rapidly worldwide. Detoxification and purification of wastewater via adsorptive removal technology has been proven to be more efficient because of it's simplicity, lesser complexity and cost-effectiveness. As the most rapid-growing division of coordination chemistry, porous coordination polymers (PCPs) or metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with the liberty of crafting tailorable porous architecture and presence of numerous functional sites have become quintessential for recognition and sequestration of water pollutants. This personal account intends to highlight our recent contributions in the field of sensing and sequestration of toxic aquatic inorganic pollutants by functionalized water stable MOFs.

Mitochondrial metabolism requires the chaperoned import of disulfide-stabilized proteins via CHCHD4/MIA40 and its enigmatic interaction with oxidoreductase Apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF). By crystallizing human CHCHD4's AIF-interaction domain with an activated AIF dimer, we uncover how NADH allosterically configures AIF to anchor CHCHD4's β-hairpin and histidine-helix motifs to the inner mitochondrial membrane. The structure further reveals a similarity between the AIF-interaction domain and recognition sequences of CHCHD4 substrates.

Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) pose serious threats to environmental and public health, and monitoring ARGs in wastewater is a growing need because wastewater is an important source. Microfluidic devices can integrate basic functional units involved in sample assays on a small chip, through the precise control and manipulation of micro/nanofluids in micro/nanoscale spaces, demonstrating the great potential of ARGs detection in wastewater. Here, we (1) summarize the state of the art in microfluidics for recognizing ARGs, (2) determine the strengths and weaknesses of portable microfluidic chips, and (3) assess the potential of portable microfluidic chips to detect ARGs in wastewater.

This review explicitly emphasizes the important yet unnoticed potential of macroalgae, such as seaweeds and kelps, as a powerful nature-based solution for climate change mitigation, with greater focus on the Indian Ocean seaweed diversity and efforts towards their conservation and management. Despite the IPCC's recognition of Blue Carbon ecosystems, seaweed ecosystems remain largely excluded from carbon accounting and policy frameworks. Herein, we specifically focus on the immense capacity of macroalgae globally and in the Indian Ocean coastal communities to sequester carbon, support marine biodiversity, and provide a range of ecosystem services.
