Directed C-H functionalization has been realized as a complimentary technique to achieve borylation at a distal position of aliphatic amines. Here, we demonstrated the oxidative borylation at the distal δ-position of aliphatic amines using various borylating agents, a palladium catalyst, and a rightly tuned ligand in the presence of a cheap oxidant. Moreover, an organopalladium δ-C(sp )-H-activated intermediate has been isolated and crystallographically characterized to get mechanistic insight.

Fluorine-rich poly(arylene amine) membranes for the separation of liquid aliphatic compounds.

Science

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry, MOE Key Laboratory of High-Performance Polymer Materials & Technology, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University, Nanjing, China.

We explored the potential for membrane materials to reduce energy and carbon requirements for the separation of aliphatic hydrocarbon feedstocks and products. We developed a series of fluorine-rich poly(arylene amine) polymer membranes that feature rigid polymer backbones with segregated perfluoroalkyl side chains. This combination imbues the polymers with resistance to dilation induced by hydrocarbon immersion without the loss of solution-based membrane fabrication techniques.

C-H activation is the most direct way of functionalizing organic molecules. Many advances in this field still require specific directing groups to achieve the necessary activity and selectivity. Developing C-H activation reactions directed by native functional groups is essential for their broad application in synthesis.

Facile Synthesis of Thermoresponsive Alternating Copolymers with Tunable Phase-Transition Temperatures.

Polymers (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Polymer Materials, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Shanghai University, Shanghai 200444, China.

A series of novel amphiphilic alternating CPEG copolymers were synthesized through an amine-epoxy click reaction comprising aliphatic amine and polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (PEGDE). These polymers were characterized in detail via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to confirm the successful synthesis. Due to their amphiphilic structure, these polymers display thermoresponsiveness, with tunable cloud points (Tcps) that are adjustable from 20.

The discriminative detection of volatile primary aliphatic diamines (VPADs) is a relevant and timely issue. This paper explores the distinctive optical features of H-type and J-type aggregates on paper-based (PB) films, namely H-PB and J-PB films, respectively, of a Lewis acidic Zn(salen)-type complex upon chemisorption of vapors of ditopic VPADs versus those of monotopic volatile amines. While volatile monotopic Lewis bases upon chemisorption give rise to mono-adducts accompanied by enhancement of the fluorescence, in contrast, VPADs act as ditopic bases forming di-adducts with distinct optical properties, leading to fluorescence quenching.

The utilization of β-fluoroamines as pharmaceutical components for drug development has attracted a considerable amount of interest. However, direct access to tertiary β-fluoroamines is challenging. We herein report the rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric amination of tertiary allylic trichloroacetimidates with anilines and cyclic aliphatic amines to access tertiary β-fluoroamines, where the α-carbon atom is bonded to four different substituents, in good yield with high levels of enantioselectivity.
