The SPrime program detects the variants in current-day populations that were introgressed from an archaic source in the past. It is optimized for detecting introgression from Neanderthals and Denisovans in modern humans. We provide a protocol for detecting Neanderthal and Denisovan introgression in 1000 Genomes Project data, specifically focusing on the CHB (Han Chinese in Beijing) population. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Browning et al. (2018).

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Weill Cornell Medicine, New York City, NY, USA.

Background: Early detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD) can improve prognosis, given new anti-amyloid therapies. Both positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging biomarkers are currently used (1). 48F-Fluorodeoxyglucose-PET (FDG-PET) can detect neurodegeneration-related hypometabolism but is costly and not easily accessible (2).

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Postgraduate Program in Psychology, Salgado de Oliveira University, Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Background: The use of blood biomarkers predictive of the presence of amyloid Aβ and ApoE4 is an effective tool to facilitate a timely AD diagnosis. About a third of dementia cases can be attributed to potentially modifiable risk factors, and the incidence of the disease can be reduced by addressing these factors. Memory Workshops integrated with early detection and actions on risk factors is an operational strategy that is both therapeutic and preventive.

Background: Latinx individuals bear a disproportionate burden of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD), with higher risk, underdiagnosis, and limited access to quality care. Primary care providers (PCPs) are crucial for early detection and management, yet organizational and policy factors significantly impact their ability to provide culturally competent and equitable ADRD care for this community. This study explores PCP perspectives to inform the development of accessible models that improve early diagnosis, preventive care, and quality of life for Latinx individuals with ADRD.
