Aim: The aim of this mini-review was to summarize the role of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) with Fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose ([F]FDG) in inflammatory and infective processes, based on the published scientific evidence.
Methods: We analysed clinical indications, patient preparation, image acquisition protocols, image interpretation, pitfalls and how to make the report of cardio-vascular diseases, musculoskeletal diseases and other inflammatory and infective systemic diseases. Results of this analysis are shown in practical tables, easy to understand for daily routine consultation.
Conclusions: Despite [F]FDG is currently used in several inflammatory and infective diseases, standardized interpretation criteria are still needed in most cases. It is, therefore, foreseen the execution of multicentre clinical studies that, by adopting the same acquisition and interpretation criteria, may contribute to the standardization of this imaging modality.

This study identifies the secondary metabolites from Alternaria alternate and evaluates their ACE-2: Spike RBD (SARS-CoV-2) inhibitory activity confirmed via immunoblotting in human lung microvascular endothelial cells. In addition, their in vitro anti-inflammatory potential was assessed using a cell-based assay in LPS-treated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells.

Autoimmune gastritis (AIG) is a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by immune-mediated destruction of gastric parietal cells, leading to oxyntic atrophy, achlorhydria, and hypergastrinemia. While AIG was historically linked to gastric adenocarcinoma and type I neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), recent evidence suggests the risk of adenocarcinoma in AIG is lower than previously believed, particularly in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-negative patients.

Background: Inflammation and innate immune activation are associated with chronic HIV infection, despite effective treatment. Although gut microbiota alterations are linked to systemic inflammation, the relationships between the gut microbiome, inflammation and HIV remain unclear.
Methods: The UPBEAT-CAD sub-study, examining cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in HIV, enrolled participants matched on HIV status and traditional CVD risk factors.

Rates of respiratory tract infections for children living in remote First Nations communities in the Sioux Lookout Zone in Northwestern Ontario are elevated and associated with poor indoor environmental quality including high exposures to endotoxin and serious dampness and mould damage. The studies also revealed a high prevalence of cigarette smoking and most houses have wood stoves, of variable quality. Depending on structure, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are carcinogens, immunotoxins and/or inflammatory mediators that are byproducts of the incomplete combustion of organic materials.

Background: Sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are common inflammatory conditions in intensive care, with ARDS significantly increasing mortality in septic patients. PANoptosis, a newly discovered form of programmed cell death involving multiple cell death pathways, plays a critical role in inflammatory diseases. This study aims to elucidate the PANoptosis-related genes (PRGs) and their involvement in the progression of sepsis to ARDS.
