Background Vertical shear (VS) pelvic ring injuries present a unique challenge due to their inherent vertical and rotational instability and the risk of massive bleeding. VS injuries may result from either bony or ligamentous injury. The goal in the treatment of VS fractures of the pelvis is to achieve and maintain an accurate reduction of the displaced hemipelvis.

The impact of treatment with avacopan on health-related quality of life in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis: a post-hoc analysis of data from the ADVOCATE trial.

Lancet Rheumatol

August 2023

Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, and Division of Epidemiology, Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA.

Background: Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis is characterised by inflammation and destruction of small to medium sized blood vessels. In the previously reported ADVOCATE study, a phase 3 double-blind, double-dummy randomised controlled trial of patients with newly diagnosed or relapsing ANCA-associated vasculitis, the oral selective complement 5a receptor inhibitor avacopan was shown to be non-inferior with regard to remission induction at week 26 and superior with regard to sustained remission at week 52, compared with a prednisone taper in a standard of care regimen. In this Article, we report an in-depth analysis of prespecified and exploratory patient-reported outcomes from the ADVOCATE study, measuring health-related quality of life and health utilities.

Maternal Body Mass Index and Recommended Gestational Weight Gain in a Middle Eastern Setting.

Matern Child Health J

March 2024

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar.

Objective: Maternal body mass index (BMI) and gestational weight gain (GWG) are modifiable risk factors that influence pregnancy outcomes. We examined the association between the two factors in pregnant women in Qatar with regard to the GWG recommendations by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 2009.

Methods: We performed a population-based retrospective cohort analysis of 3547 singleton births, using routinely collected data from a Middle Eastern hospital database.

Dissolution mechanism of cellulose in a benzyltriethylammonium/urea deep eutectic solvent (DES): DFT-quantum modeling, molecular dynamics and experimental investigation.

Phys Chem Chem Phys

August 2023

Laboratory of Molecular Chemistry, Materials and Environment (LMCME), Department of Chemistry, Faculty Multidisciplinary Nador, Mohammed 1st University, P. B. 300, Nador 62700, Morocco.

In this paper, a benzyltriethylammonium/urea DES was investigated as a new green and eco-friendly medium for the progress of organic chemical reactions, particularly the dissolution and the functionalization of cellulose. In this regard, the viscosity-average molecular weight of cellulose () during the dissolution/regeneration process was investigated, showing no significant degradation of the polymer chains. Moreover, X-ray diffraction patterns indicated that the cellulose dissolution process in the BTEAB/urea DES decreased the crystallinity index from 87% to 75%, and there was no effect on type I cellulose polymorphism.
