AI Article Synopsis

  • PFTrDA exposure reduces testosterone levels and affects Leydig cell maturation in late puberty in male rats.
  • Higher doses (5 and 10 mg/kg) lead to a significant decrease in serum luteinizing hormone and alterations in testicular triglycerides and fatty acids.
  • The study suggests that PFTrDA negatively impacts Leydig cell function and development by modifying fatty acid profiles during a critical growth period.

Article Abstract

Perfluorotridecanoic acid (PFTrDA) is a long-chain (C13) perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acid. Here, we report the influence of PFTrDA exposure on the maturation of rat Leydig cells in late puberty . Male Sprague-Dawley rats were administered PFTrDA by gavage of 0, 1, 5, and 10 mg/kg/day from 35 days to 56 days postpartum. PFTrDA had no effect on body weight, testis weight, and epididymis weight. It significantly decreased the serum testosterone level after 5 and 10 mg/kg exposure, while it did not alter the serum estradiol level. The serum luteinizing hormone level was markedly reduced after 10 mg/kg PFTrDA exposure, while the follicle-stimulating hormone level was unchanged. , and transcript levels in the testis were markedly lowered in the 1-5 mg/kg PFTrDA group and the transcript level in the pituitary in the 10 mg/kg group. CYP11A1 and HSD11B1-positive Leydig cell numbers were markedly reduced after 10 mg/kg PFTrDA exposure. Testicular triglyceride and free fatty acid (palmitic acid, oleic acid, and linoleic acid) levels were significantly reduced by PFTrDA, while (up-regulation) and and ) expression were altered. AKT1 and AMPK phosphorylation was stimulated after 10 PFTrDA mg/kg exposure. In conclusion, PFTrDA delays the maturation of Leydig cells in late puberty mainly by altering the free fatty acid profile.

Dairy heifers with gastrointestinal nematodes have reduced growth rates, and delayed age at puberty and milk production onset related to late mammary gland development. IGF1 and Notch signaling systems are important in this process, and an altered profile of serum IGF1 has been associated with the detrimental effect of the nematodes on parenchymal development. In this context, we aimed to study the molecular mechanisms involved in bovine mammary gland development around pre and postpuberty, focusing on proliferative and angiogenic processes that involve the Notch and IGF1 pathways.

Background: Trans girls may initiate early puberty blockers once puberty has started in order to prevent the development of masculine secondary sexual characteristics. Depending on how early the puberty blockers are administered, voice may have reached a certain degree of development and have acquired typically male acoustic and phonetic parameters, which can cause discomfort and affect the adolescent's quality of life.

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to (1) determine if there are differences in discomfort with the self-perceiver voice according to the moment of puberty block (PB), and (2) find a relation between vocal discomfort and variables such a voice phonetic/acoustic characteristics and self-perception of voice.

Early puberty is associated with improved long-term reproductive performance. Predicting who will achieve early puberty is limited to intensive, invasive serial blood collections for measurement of reproductive hormones. The vaginal genome during pubertal development has potential as biomarkers of early estrus in the pre-pubertal period.
