Review on physical impedance models in modern battery research.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is a versatile tool to understand complex processes in batteries. This technique can investigate the effects of battery components like the electrode and electrolyte, electrochemical reactions, interfaces, and interphases forming in the electrochemical systems. The interpretation of the EIS data is typically made using models expressed in terms of the so-called electrical equivalent circuits (EECs) to fit the impedance spectra. Therefore, the EECs must unambiguously represent the electrochemistry of the system. EEC models with a physical significance are more relevant than the empirical ones with their inherent imperfect description of the ongoing processes. This review aims to present the readers with the importance of physical EEC modeling within the context of battery research. A general introduction to EIS and EEC models along with a brief description of the mathematical formalism is provided, followed by showcasing the importance of physical EEC models for EIS on selected examples from the research on traditional, aqueous, and newer all-solid-state battery systems.

Herein, a dedicated ultrasound system along with a detailed step-by-step sonodynamic process from in vitro to in vivo is developed to activate phytochlorin-based sonosensitizers.

As several decades of research have shown the cardioprotective effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors alone or in combination with diuretics, we were interested in investigating the effects of subchronic therapy of these drugs on ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) damage to the heart, as well as their influence on oxidative status. The research was conducted on 40 spontaneously hypertensive male Wistar Kyoto rats, divided into 4 groups. Animals were treated for four weeks with 10 mg/kg/day zofenopril alone or in combination with hydrochlorothiazide, indapamide and spironolactone per os.

The external ear canal, characterized by species-specific structural and physiological differences, maintains a hostile environment that prevents microbial overgrowth and foreign body entry, supported by factors such as temperature, pH, humidity, and cerumen with antimicrobial properties. This review combines several studies on the healthy ear canal's structure and physiology with a critical approach to the potential existence of an ear microbiome. We use a comparative multi-species approach to explore how allergic conditions alter the ear canal microenvironment and cerumen in different mammalian species, promoting pathogen colonization.
