Background: Tennis leg (TL), a musculotendon injury to the gastrocnemius, has been associated with the eponymous sport since 1883. This article examines the historical context of TL as a sports compared with an occupational injury. This was juxtaposed with the history of tennis elbow, a tendon injury to the upper extremity also associated with sport.

Analyzing vestibular-spinal reflex by recording changes in the pressure center over time, static posturography provides precise, repeatable information regarding a person's posture and subsequent postural strategy. Moreover, using the detected postural pattern, this can presage likely genesis of problems in equilibrium. The purpose of the present work was to evaluate posturographic findings in subjects with chronic or persistent whiplash (WL)-induced disequilibrium in order to determine any clear postural pattern able to indicate the likely genesis of the disorder.

We studied the behaviour of Vestibular Nystagmus (VOR), of Optokinetic Nystagmus (OKN) and of Visuo-Vestibular-Ocular-Reflex (VVOR) in seven normal subjects and in thirty-two patients who had undergone cervical trauma in an automobile accident with the so called "whiplash mechanism". Thirteen subjects underwent examination within the first three months after the accident (first group), six subjects between the third and the sixth months (third group). Ocular movements was recorded according to the usual method by means of a Tonnies electronystagmograph with eight channels.
