Published: September 2021

A gram-staining-positive, rod-shaped bacterium, designed strain FJAT-51161 was isolated from farmland soil collected from Fujian Province, China. Growth was observed at 25-40 °C (optimum 30 °C), pH 7.0-9.0 (optimum 7.0), and NaCl tolerance in the range of 0-7% (w/v), respectively. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the strain FJAT-51161 belonged to the genus Lysinibacillus, and had the closest relationship with Lysinibacillus xylanilyticus XDB9 (99.0% 16S rRNA sequence similarity). The digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) values based on the genome sequence analysis between strain FJAT-51161 and the closest reference strain were 38.0% for dDDH and 88.7% for ANI, respectively, lower than the prokaryotic species delineation values. Further analysis showed that strain FJAT-51161 shared the fatty acid profiles such as iso-C (46.7%), iso-C (15.8%), C ω7c alcohol (14.0%), anteiso-C (6.9%) with other members of the genus Lysinibacillus. As the peptidoglycan contained the amino acids alanine, lysine, glycine and aspartic acid, the type A4α was deduced as found in the closest relatives of strain FJAT-51161. The peptidoglycan of strain FJAT-51161 was L-Lys-D-Asp (type A4α). The main quinone was MK-7 and MK-6. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). The DNA G + C content is 36.6 mol%. Based on the phenotypic characters and taxono-genomics study, strain FJAT-51161 is considered to represent a novel Lysinibacillus species, for which the name Lysinibacillus agricola sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is FJAT-51161 (GDMCC1.2350 = KCTC 43326).

Superbugs, as bacterial resistance species, resist known antibiotics. In this study, twenty novel 1,2,4-triazole-functionalized piperazine-stearic acid derivatives 6a-p were designed, synthesized, and characterized via spectroscopic analyses, evaluating their antimicrobial potential against clinically relevant bacterial and fungal strains. Notably, five derivatives (6a, 6c, 6m, 6n, and 6o) demonstrated superior antimicrobial efficacy compared to gentamicin standard, with compound 6n showing the most potent activity (MIC = 3.

Objective: No clinical standard exists for intraoperative fetal cardiac monitoring during maternal-fetal surgery for fetal myelomeningocele (fMMC). This pilot study explores the feasibility of using speckle tracking echocardiography (STE)-derived functional measurements to characterize cardiac performance throughout fetoscopic fMMC and compares these measures with other common intraoperative cardiac function parameters.

Methods: Continuous fetal echocardiography was performed during fetoscopic fMMC repair with fetal heart rate assessment every 2 minutes and a 4-chamber cine clip and mitral and tricuspid Doppler inflow patterns captured every 5 minutes.

Simultaneously enhanced alginate-based hydrogel self-recovery and mechanical strength upon intramolecular nodes and nanoparticulate joints.

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, No. 1 University Road, Tainan 70101, Taiwan. Electronic address:

The lack of self-recovery features and mechanical toughness has fundamentally limited the practical applications of ionic single-network hydrogels. Due to strong ionic interactions with Zr cation crosslinkers, intramolecular crosslinking nodes are found to evolve via the folding of alginate segments, revolutionizing alginate hydrogels with substantial self-recovery capability and enhanced mechanical strength. Although being restricted by like-charge repulsion still, this new crosslinking mechanism triples the reachable tensile strain of alginate/polyacrylamide double-network hydrogels, and largely improves self-recovery efficiency.

Electronic address:

Hydrogels are soft and wet materials, but their applications are always limited by insufficient mechanical strength and toughness, and they are prone to freezing at low temperatures. In this study, we introduced an eco-friendly approach to developing wood-based hydrogels reinforced by the naturally aligned wood skeleton (WS) through the Hofmeister effect. The resulting wood-based composite hydrogels exhibited a high tensile strength of 20 MPa and a strain of 35 % in the longitudinal direction.
