Background: We aimed to evaluate whether right ventricle (RV) longitudinal strain indexed to pulmonary arterial systolic pressure (PASP) has prognostic significance in patients undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).

Methods: Patients undergoing CRT were prospectively included. The primary endpoint was adverse cardiovascular events (death and HF-related hospitalizations). RV global longitudinal strain (RVGLS) and RV free wall strain (RVfwS) were measured by speckle tracking and indexed to echocardiographic estimated PASP.

Results: A total of 54 patients (64.0 ± 13.8 years; 58% male) were included. After 33 ± 12.9 months, the primary endpoint occurred in 18 patients. Baseline RVGLS/PASP and RVfwS/PASP showed good discriminative ability for response to CRT (AUC = 0.88, 95% CI (0.74-1) and AUC = 0.87, 95% CI (0.77-1)). RVGLS/PASP and RVfwS/PASP were significantly associated with high risk of events at univariate analysis (HR 0.039, 95% CI (0.001-0.8) < 0.05, respectively HR = 0.049, 95% CI (0.0033-0.72), < 0.05). Upon multivariate Cox regression analysis, RVGLS/PASP and RVfwS/PASP remained associated with high risk of events (HR 0.018, 95% CI (0.0005-0.64), = 0.02 and HR 0.015, 95% CI (0.0004-0.524), = 0.01) after correction for gender, etiology, QRS duration and morphology. Indexing RV longitudinal strain (global and free wall) by PASP provides a parameter, which independently identifies patients with high risk of cardiovascular events and predicts non-response to CRT.

Predictive value of epicardial adipose tissue volume for early detection of left ventricular dysfunction in patients suspected of coronary artery disease.

Clin Radiol

November 2024

Department of Radiology, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, 1277 Jiefang Rd., Wuhan 430022, China; Hubei Province Key Laboratory of Molecular Imaging, Wuhan 430022, China. Electronic address:

Aim: To investigate the relationship between epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) and myocardial strain and the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD), and to evaluate the predictive value of EAT parameters in early left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction.

Materials And Methods: One hundred seventy patients with suspected CAD who underwent both coronary computed tomography angiography and echocardiography were enrolled in 2020. LV global strains were calculated using commercial software.

Charge transport in materials has an impact on a wide range of devices based on semiconductor, battery, or superconductor technology. Charge transport in sliding charge density waves (CDW) differs from all others in that the atomic lattice is directly involved in the transport process. To obtain an overall picture of the structural changes associated to the collective transport, the large coherent x-ray beam generated by an x-ray free-electron laser (XFEL) source was used.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia, yet the effectiveness of disease-modifying interventions is inconclusive. Although exceptional progress in our understanding of AD neuropathology has been made via transgenic mouse models bearing familial mutations, they often fail to recapitulate the disease progression of late-onset AD (LOAD). To address this, MODEL-AD has developed LOAD1 and LOAD2 mouse models which carry the most common human-relevant risk factors for AD.

Background: Adipose tissue distribution plays a crucial role in the development of cardiovascular complications. In particular, visceral adipose tissue (VAT) has been linked to insulin resistance (IR) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the relationship between VAT, cardiac dysfunction and the meditation capacity of VAT related to IR has not been fully characterized.

Background: As older age and having certain comorbidities can influence humoral responses to vaccination, we studied antibody responses after the COVID-19 booster campaigns in nursing home (NH) residents.

Methods: In a two year longitudinal study with Dutch NH residents (n = 107), aged 50 years and over, we monitored antibody responses in serum prior to and after vaccination with a third, fourth BNT162b2 (wild-type; WT), and a BNT162b2 bivalent (WT/OMI BA.1) fifth vaccine.
