In order to improve pharmaceutical properties of drugs, complexes are synthesized as combinations with other chemical substances. The complexes of fenamic acid and its derivatives, such as mefenamic-, tolfenamic- and flufenamic acid, with acridine were obtained and the X-ray structures were discussed. Formation of the crystals is determined by the presence of the intermolecular O-HN hydrogen bond that occur between fenamic acids and acridine. Intermolecular interactions stabilizing the crystals such as ππ stacking, C-HX (X = O, Cl) intermolecular hydrogen bonds as well as C-Hπ and other dispersive interactions were analyzed by theoretical methods: the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) and noncovalent interaction (NCI) approaches.

Electronic address:

Bacterial-infected wounds usually lead to slow wound healing due to increased inflammation, especially wounds infected by drug-resistant bacteria, which is a serious challenge in the biomedical field. Traditional antimicrobial strategies such as antibiotics lead to a significant increase in drug-resistant strains and have limited efficacy. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop multifunctional dressings with excellent antibacterial activity and promotion of wound healing.

Pomegranate peel polyphenols (PPP) are natural compounds known for their various biological activities; however, they are easily degraded by environmental conditions, leading to a reduction in their biological activity and health benefits. Therefore, improving the stability of PPP is a critical question that needs to be addressed. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of five common microcapsule wall materials-carboxymethyl cellulose sodium (CMCNa), sodium alginate (SA), gum Arabic (GA), beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD), and hydroxypropyl starch (HPS)-in encapsulating PPP to enhance its stability and antioxidant activity.

Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) exhibits unique application potential in water purification due to its large specific surface area, high porosity, and chemical inertness. Designing adsorbents with highly active adsorption sites is one effective method to improve their adsorption capacities. In this study, porous h-BN aerogels containing multiple defect types (DP-BN) were synthesized by using salt templates.

β-Cyclodextrin (β-CD) enhances functional properties by forming inclusion complexes (ICs). This study employed β-CD to form IC with fatty acid ethyl ester (FAEE) for concentrating α-Linolenic acid ethyl ester (ALAEE) from flaxseed oil FAEE, and investigated the interaction mechanisms between β-CD and ALAEE. Using the single-factor method, optimal inclusion conditions yielded an inclusion rate of 61.

Nano-fibrous biopolymers as building blocks for gel networks: Interactions, characterization, and applications.

Adv Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta T6G 1H9, Canada. Electronic address:

Biopolymers derived from natural resources are highly abundant, biodegradable, and biocompatible, making them promising candidates to replace non-renewable fossil fuels and mitigate environmental and health impacts. Nano-fibrous biopolymers possessing advantages of biopolymers entangle with each other through inter-/intra-molecular interactions, serving as ideal building blocks for gel construction. These biopolymer nanofibers often synergize with other nano-building blocks to enhance gels with desirable functions and eco-friendliness across various applications in biomedical, environmental, and energy sectors.
