Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in regional lumbar lordosis (RLL) and global lumbar lordosis (GLL) angle during slumped sitting and upright sitting among three global subgroups.

Methods: A total of 48 young asymptomatic volunteers stood in a comfortable posture, sat upright, and sat in a slumped position for 5 seconds, with inertial measurement units attached to the T10, L3, and S2 vertebrae. According to standing measurement, the participants were categorized into flat-back (GLL < 20∘), normal lordosis (20∘⩽ GLL < 30∘), and hyper-lordosis (30∘⩽ GLL < 40∘) groups.

Results: Both the GLL and RLL in the flat-back group were reduced lumbar lordosis in the upright sitting posture and increased lumbar kyphosis in the slumped sitting postures compared to the other groups (p< 0.05), but the range of motion during the transition from upright sitting to slumped sitting was lower than that of the normal and hyper-lordosis groups (p< 0.05). GLL in standing was a moderate correlation with GLL and RLL during upright sitting (p< 0.05). However, there was a strong correlation between GLL and RLL kinematics during upright and slumped sitting (p< 0.05).

Conclusions: Flat-back posture is a potential source of low back pain during both upright and slumped sitting compared to the normal and hyper-lordosis groups. Posture measurements in a standing and sitting position conducted to assess lordosis should consider the relationship between GLL and RLL.

Fatigue and recovery-related changes in postural and core stability in sedentary employees: a study protocol.

Prolonged sitting leads to a slumped posture, which indirectly influences spinal curvature and increases low back and hamstring stiffness. Active rather than passive recovery is an effective way to reduce the risks associated with such prolonged inactivity. However, it remains to be investigated which of the exercises frequently used for this purpose, the trunk stability and foam rolling exercise, is more beneficial.

Purpose: To classify sagittal spinopelvic alignment patterns of non-ambulatory scoliosis patients with paraplegia based on lateral sitting radiographs and explore their relation to clinical background and physical function.

Methods: We reviewed non-ambulatory scoliosis patients with paraplegia, excluding those with prior spinal surgery from a single-center database. Alignment patterns in sitting postures were classified into slump sitting (SS) and erect sitting (ES) based on the most posterior edge of the spine's location on lateral sitting radiographs.

Objectives: Slump sitting at workstations has been focused on by clinicians and researchers nowadays; however, there is limited evidence to date that improper positioning affects the mental state. Accordingly, the main objective of this research was to examine the impact of slump posture on mental fatigue and task performance.

Methods: A sample of 60 participants, 30 in each group including those with normal and slump postures were recruited to perform an hour of typing on the computer.

: To investigate the effect of slider and tensioner neurodynamic techniques (NDTs) on the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity, aiming to identify which technique more effectively modulates autonomic responses in asymptomatic individuals. : In this double-blind controlled trial, a total of 90 healthy participants were randomly allocated into three groups: slider, tensioner, and control. Skin conductance (SC) was continuously monitored throughout the entire 20 min experiment, while body temperature and blood pressure were measured pre- and post-intervention.

Article Synopsis
  • - Proximal Hamstring Tendinopathy (PHT) is characterized by deep pain near the ischial tuberosity, often affecting long-distance runners, and is linked to tendon compression during hip movement.
  • - A 30-year-old male runner developed deep buttock pain after a race, experiencing discomfort during activities like running on inclines and sitting for long periods; he participated in a 12-week progressive loading exercise program aimed at alleviating his symptoms.
  • - After 12 weeks of targeted exercises, his pain significantly decreased and functional capacity improved, indicating that a structured exercise approach can effectively treat PHT; further research is necessary for validation of these findings.
