AI Article Synopsis

  • The study evaluated a 12-week online exercise program's effectiveness on diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) width, weight, and core function in non-pregnant women 6-24 months postpartum.
  • Eight participants were divided into intervention (exercise) and control groups, with exercise monitoring through surveys and DRA measurements at the beginning and end of the program.
  • Results showed significant reductions in DRA width in the exercise group, a trend towards weight loss, but no significant changes in core function, indicating virtual exercise might help postpartum women with DRA.

Article Abstract

To examine the effectiveness of an online, 12-week exercise intervention on diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) width and negatively associated health outcomes (i.e. weight and core function). Non-pregnant women who were 6-24 months postpartum and ≥ 18 years of age completed the study. Participants ( = 8) were randomized to intervention (exercise) or control groups; with the intervention group completing three exercise sessions per week virtually. Both groups completed three surveys at baseline, 6-weeks, and 12-weeks. DRA width was measured with nylon calipers at baseline and 12-weeks. Repeated measures analysis of covariance examined Group x Time changes in width of DRA, core function, and weight at 12-weeks; effect sizes (i.e. Cohen's ) were calculated. An alpha level of 0.05 was used to determine statistical significance. There was a significant Group x Time interaction for two DRA width measurement sites, 2 inches above navel (rest) ( = 0.007, = 0.67) and 2 inches above navel (active) ( = 0.005, = 0.69). The Group x Time interaction for weight approached significance ( = 0.06), with a small between group effect size ( = 0.23). The Group x Time interaction for core function was not significant ( = 0.83). Exercise interventions delivered in a virtual setting may be effective for decreasing the severity of DRA in postpartum women. Future research should investigate the impact of similar programs on other aspects of postpartum mental and physical health, activities of daily living, and clinical practice.

The study was designed to investigate the pattern of intraventricular Hemo-Dynamic Forces (HDF) and myocardial performance during exercise in Elite Cyclists (EC). Transthoracic stress echocardiography was performed on nineteen EC and thirteen age-matched sedentary controls (SC) at three incremental exercise intensities based on Heart Rate Reserve (HRR). Left Ventricular (LV) HDF were computed from echocardiography long-axis data sets using a novel technique based on endocardial boundary tracking, both in apex-base and latero-septal directions.

Background: Depression significantly impacts an individual's thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and moods; this prevalent mental health condition affects millions globally. Traditional approaches to detecting and treating depression rely on questionnaires and personal interviews, which can be time consuming and potentially inefficient. As social media has permanently shifted the pattern of our daily communications, social media postings can offer new perspectives in understanding mental illness in individuals because they provide an unbiased exploration of their language use and behavioral patterns.

Background: Adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cystic fibrosis (CF) are at risk for deviating from their daily treatment regimen due to significant time burden, complicated daily therapies, and life stressors. Developing patient-centric, effective, engaging, and practical behavioral interventions is vital to help sustain therapeutically meaningful self-management.

Objective: This study aimed to devise and refine a patient-centered telecoaching intervention to foster self-management in AYA with CF using a combination of intervention development approaches, including an evidence- and theory-based approach (ie, applying existing theories and research evidence for behavior change) and a target population-centered approach (ie, intervention refinement based on the perspectives and actions of those individuals who will use it).

Although antipsychotics are used commonly for delirium, they increase the risk of mortality in elderly patients and those with dementia. As hydroxyzine has sedative and anxiolytic effects, it can be used in the treatment of delirium. We performed a retrospective study to compare the effects of intravenous hydroxyzine and haloperidol monotherapy on delirium.

Background: The usefulness of circulating free DNA (cfDNA), nuclear DNA (nDNA) and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) as potential biomarkers in cancer remains controversial.

Objective: To determine the concentration of cfDNA and plasma nDNA and mtDNA levels in breast cancer (BC) patients.

Material And Methods: This study included a total of 86 women (69 patients with BC and 17 women as a control group).
