While the interactions of the gut microbiome and blood metabolome have been widely studied in polycystic ovary disease in women, follicular cysts of ewes have been scarcely investigated using these methods. In this study, the fecal microbiome and serum metabolome were used to compare between ewes diagnosed with ovarian cystic follicles and ewes with normal follicles, to investigate alterations of the fecal bacterial community composition and metabolic parameters in relation to follicular cystogenesis. Ewes from the same feeding and management system were diagnosed with a follicular cyst ( = 6) or confirmed to have normal follicles ( = 6) by using a B-mode ultrasound scanner. Blood serum and fresh fecal samples of all ewes were collected and analyzed. The α-diversity of fecal microbiome did not differ significantly between follicular cyst ewes and normal follicle ewes. Three genera (, , and ) were identified and their balance differentiated between follicular cyst and normal follicle ewes. Alterations of several serum metabolite concentrations, belonging to lipids and lipid-like molecules, organic acids and derivatives, organic oxygen compounds, benzenoids, phenylpropanoids and polyketides, and organoheterocyclic compounds, were associated with the presence of a follicular cyst. Correlation analysis between fecal bacterial communities and serum metabolites indicated a positive correlation between and several fatty acids, and a negative correlation between and L-proline. These observations provide new insights for the complex interactions of the gut microbiota and the host serum lipid profiles, and support gut microbiota as a potential strategy to treat and prevent follicular cysts in sheep.

Castleman disease is a lymphadenopathy of unknown cause at a single site, which is designated as unicentric Castleman disease, or at multiple sites designated as multicentric Castleman disease. We present a patient who showed axillary reactive lymphoid hyperplasia, likely due to unicentric Castleman disease, and orbital extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma in a six-year follow-up. A 76-year-old man had a painless left axillary mass for an unknown period and also left complete blepharoptosis with no other systemic symptoms.

Whereas pancreatic masses are often difficult to detect with transabdominal ultrasound, cross-sectional imaging features high sensitivity for the pancreatic tumors. However, increasing availability of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has led to a surge in the detection of benign or precancerous pancreatic lesions. The medical history is characteristic only for two entities.

Brenner tumors are rare ovarian neoplasms that are typically small and unilateral. Most cases are benign; less than 5% of all Brenner tumors are borderline or proliferative. Brenner tumors originate from the follicular epithelium and consist of ovarian transitional cells surrounded by fibrous tissue.

Wnt4 signaling is critical for mammalian female sex determination, in female reproductive organ development, in follicular and oocyte maturation, and in steroid hormone production. When Wnt4 function is impaired, female embryos undergo partial female to male sex-reversal. This phenotype is associated with the expression of a set of somatic genes that are typical for the male differentiation pathways such as those of the Leydig cells.
