species (Family Cucurbitaceae) are cultivated throughout the world for their edible fruits, leaves, shoots and seeds. Among the species of the genus there are three selected species that are used as vegetable, and for medicinal purposes, L (Bitter melon), Schumach (Bitter cucumber) and L (African pumpkin). The fruits and leaves of these species are rich in primary and secondary metabolites such as proteins, fibers, minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc), -carotene, foliate, ascorbic acid, among others. The extracts from species are used for the treatment of a variety of diseases and ailments in traditional medicine. species extracts are reputed to possess anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, anthelmintic bioactivity, abortifacient, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and play chemo-preventive functions. In this review we summarize the biochemical, nutritional, and medicinal values of three species (, and ) as promising and innovative sources of natural bioactive compounds for future pharmaceutical usage.

Expansion and losses of gene families are important drivers of molecular evolution. A recent survey of Fox genes in flatworms revealed that this superfamily of multifunctional transcription factors, present in all animals, underwent extensive losses and expansions during platyhelminth evolution. In this paper, I analyzed Fox gene complement in four additional species of platyhelminths, that represent early-branching lineages in the flatworm phylogeny: catenulids (Stenostomum brevipharyngium and Stenostomum leucops) and macrostomorphs (Macrostomum hystrix and Macrostomum cliftonense).

Objective: To study the effect of transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block under direct vision with acupoint injection on the rapid recovery of patients after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Methods: Ninety-three patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Hangzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to December 2023 were selected and divided into control, TAP block under direct vision (TAP-DV), and TAP-DV with acupoint injection (TAP-DVA) groups using a random number table method. Postoperative VAS, Ramsay score, IL-6, CRP, and postoperative rehabilitation indices were compared among the three groups.

A chemical examination of a root extract of led to the isolation and identification of 23 compounds, including oxazole-type alkaloids and isoflavonoid derivatives. Notably, three oxazole-type alkaloids (, , and ) and two isoflavonoid derivatives ( and ) were obtained from a natural source for the first time.
