Deep brain stimulation (DBS) can ameliorate motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD), but its mechanism remains unclear. This work constructs a multi-scale brain model using the fMRI data from 27 PD patients with subthalamic DBS and 30 healthy controls. The model fits microscopic coupling parameters in the cortico-basal ganglia-thalamic neural loop to match individual connectivity, finding the "push-pull" effect of basal ganglia network.

Background: Increased 4-12 Hz oscillatory activity in the cortico-basal ganglia-thalamo-cortical (CBGTC) loop is reported in dystonia. Coherence analysis is a measure of linear coupling between two signals, revealing oscillatory activity drives that are common across motor units. By performing coherence analysis, activity of the CBGTC-loop can be measured with modalities like local field potentials (LFPs), electromyography (EMG), and electro-encephalography (EEG).

A hallmark of Parkinson's disease is the appearance of correlated oscillatory discharge throughout the cortico-basal ganglia (BG) circuits. In the primate globus pallidus (GP), where the discharge of GP neurons is normally uncorrelated, pairs of GP neurons exhibit oscillatory spike correlations with a broad distribution of pairwise phase delays in experimental parkinsonism. The transition to oscillatory correlations is thought to indicate the collapse of the normally segregated information channels traversing the BG.

Introduction: Stuttering is a speech disorder characterized by impaired connections between brain regions involved in speech production. This study aimed to investigate functional connectivity and frequency power during rest in adults who stutter (AWS) compared to fluent adults (AWNS) in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), dorsolateral frontal cortex (DLFC), supplementary motor area (SMA), motor speech, angular gyrus (AG), and inferior temporal gyrus (ITG).
Materials And Methods: Fifteen AWS (3 females, 12 males) and fifteen age- and sex-matched AWNS (3 females, 12 males) participated in this study.
