Photobiomodulation therapy as an additional method for the treatment of temporomandibular disorder patients- a narrative review.

Lasers Med Sci

January 2025

Department of Internal Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, WITS University, South Africa.

The photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is promising additional therapy in the treatment of temporomandibular disorder (TMD). In this regard, the purpose of this narrative review is to give a wide-ranging, objective, and judicious view of the current knowledge on PBMT as an additional TMD treatment modality, with summarised updated information. Although the results of most research studies report improvement of pain in TMD patients, some state that sustainability of absence of pain after PBMT of TMD is of concern.

Unlabelled: Due to increasing antimicrobial resistance and side effects caused by current standard antimicrobial regimens used for treatment of prosthetic joint infection (PJI), alternative options are urgently needed. We aimed to investigate the effect of clindamycin in different exposure strategies against in an mature biofilm model. In short, 7-day biofilms were generated on polystyrene plates and titanium-aluminum-vanadium discs using a clinical PJI isolate.

Faithful quantum state transfer between telecom photons and microwave frequency mechanical oscillations necessitate a fast conversion rate and low thermal noise. Two-dimensional (2D) optomechanical crystals (OMCs) are favorable candidates that satisfy those requirements. 2D OMCs enable sufficiently high mechanical frequency (1∼10 GHz) to make the resolved-sideband regime achievable, a prerequisite for many quantum protocols.

Quantitative profiling and mapping of small molecules by laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry: combinations of carbon-based nano-matrices and sample preparation protocols.

Jiangsu Key Laboratory for Carbon-based Functional Materials and Devices, Institute of Functional Nano and Soft Materials (FUNSOM), Soochow University, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province 215123, China.

The choices of matrices and protocols for sample deposition are critical factors, which impact each other in the matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry imaging (MSI). Previous reports on MALDI MS matrices have only compared their performances in terms of their MS signal intensities and provided optical microphotos or MALDI MS images of sample spots but typically lacked quantitative evaluation. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a multivariate model to evaluate the performance of different combinations of matrices and sample protocols.

The prebiopsy photo: A tool to improve patient safety and outcomes.

JAAPA

February 2025

Christy Kerr practices at Dermatology & Laser of Del Mar in Del Mar, Calif. The author has disclosed no potential conflicts of interest, financial or otherwise.

This article reviews the reasons to take a prebiopsy photograph and the consequences that can ensue when one is not taken. Electronic medical record systems compatible with mobile devices can record clinical photographs that comply with patient privacy regulations, making them the method of choice for dermatologic photo documentation. Correct photographic documentation technique also is critical and is reviewed with examples.
