Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized with the progressive loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons within the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc). Quantitative analysis of neuronal loss including neuronal processes, axons and dendrites, would advance the understanding of the pathogenesis of PD. ScaleS, an aqueous tissue clearing method, provides stable tissue preservation while maintaining potent clearing capability, allowing quantitative three-dimensional (3D) imaging of biological tissues. In this chapter, we describe detailed procedures for 3D imaging of brain slice tissues with ScaleS technique. These include brain slice preparation, tissue clarification, chemical and immunohistochemical labeling (ChemScale and AbScale), and observation of labeled tissues using a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM).

46,XY differences/disorders of sex development (DSD) are genetically heterogeneous conditions characterized by atypical development of the reproductive system. MYRF, a gene encoding a transcription factor, has been identified as a potential causative gene for DSD and cardiac urogenital syndrome (CUGS). This study aims to delineate the clinical manifestations of patients with 46,XY DSD and MYRF mutations, encompassing both from our cohort and cases reported in the literature.

The orthopaedic community frequently encounters polytrauma individuals with concomitant traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their fractures demonstrate accelerated fracture union, but the mechanisms remain far from clear. Animal and clinical studies demonstrate robust callus formation at the early healing process and expedited radiographical union. In humans, robust callus formation in TBI occurs independently of fracture fixation methods across multiple fracture sites.

In the human airways, mucus is constantly secreted to capture inhaled microbes and pollutants and cleared away through concerted ciliary motion. Many important respiratory diseases exhibit altered mucus flowability and impaired clearance, contributing to respiratory distress and increased risk of infections.

Background The incidence of margin re-excision following breast conserving surgery (BCS) is a quality measure in the National Health Service. The threshold is less than 20% of all BCS procedures. Despite three decades of studies and a wealth of literature identifying multiple factors associated with increased risk for margin involvement, an accepted threshold rate affecting one in five procedures remains high.

Introduction Effective communication is crucial for healthcare professionals, impacting patient care and interdisciplinary collaboration. However, medical education often lacks structured training in communication and presentation techniques. Herein, we evaluate the efficacy of structured workshops aimed at enhancing presentation skills among ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctors through training in visual material design and concise verbal communication, including elevator pitches.
