Background: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) are considered to be different pathologies, but they have similar clinical features such as cognitive dysfunction and gait disturbance. Therefore, it is difficult to understand between the two diseases in actual clinical practice. The aim of study is whether the indivisual characteristic in MRI is useful to devide into two groups.

Background: Long COVID is an under-characterized disorder that affects a wide range of individuals after COVID-19 resolution. Long COVID individuals report persistent neurological manifestations, such as anxiety. Understanding its effects in the brain might help uncover the actual burden imposed by the pandemic sequelae and either define or discard long COVID as a risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases.

Background: The Maintain Your Brain (MYB) randomised controlled trial (RCT) examined the effect of a multi-domain internet-based dementia prevention program against a control group (information only) over three years among Australians aged 55-77 years. A cost-effective analysis (CEA) quantified the differences in costs (direct healthcare and program costs) and effectiveness outcomes between the intervention and control groups from a health care sector perspective.

Method: An economic evaluation was conducted alongside the MYB trial.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Department of Neurology, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA.

Background: Population-based functional connectomes help explain heterogeneity in tau spread in Alzheimer's disease by demonstrating spread among connected neurons from canonical epicenters. However, if the hypothesis of cell-to-cell transmission of tau is correct, individual structural connectomes seeded from individual-specific epicenters of PET-tau pathology should improve prediction of regional tau patterns.

Method: 86 participants from the Penn Aging Brain Cohort and 158 participants from ADNI with multi-shell diffusion MRI and AV1451 Tau PET within 18 months of each other were included.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, Lexington, KY, USA.

Background: Our lab recently developed 2 mouse monoclonal antibodies that preferentially react with "distressed astrocytes". One monoclonal, 26A6, was found to react preferentially with a form of the Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein phosphatase, calcineurin (CN), that has been cleaved by calpain, to generate a 48 kDa CN fragment (∆CN). We recently published a characterization of this antibody.
