The imaging signs which can accurately predict survival prognosis after standard treatment of high-grade glioma (HGG) are highly desirable. This study aims to explore the role of new enhancement beyond radiation field (NERF) in the survival prediction in patients with post-treatment HGG. The present study included 142 pathologically confirmed HGG patients who had received standard treatment. NERF, as well as other conventional MR findings and clinical variables, were included in univariate and multivariate analyses for evaluating their impactions on progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Univariate analysis showed that histological grade (=0.008) and NERF (=0.001) were the prognostic variables for poor PFS, whereas histological grade (=0.017), NERF (=0.001), and new subventricular zone enhancement (nSVZE) (=0.001) were prognostic variables for poor OS. The multivariate analysis showed that NERF (HR 3.93; 95% CI 1.93-8.01; =0.001) and nSVZE (HR 3.92; 95% CI 1.95-7.89; =0.001) were the prognostic variables for poor OS. However, only nSVZE was (HR 3.29; 95% CI 2.04-5.28; =0.001) the prognostic variable for poor PFS. When combining the NERF with the clinical and other MR variables, the highest AUC (0.924) and specificity (0.899) for predicting poor OS were achieved. The location of new developed enhancements relevant to high dose radiation field appears to be the main determinant of their prognostic value. Our results suggest that the new enhancement beyond radiation field can improve the survival prediction in patients with HGG after standard treatment.

Chorus waves are some of the strongest electromagnetic emissions naturally occurring in space and can cause radiation that is hazardous to humans and satellites. Although chorus waves have attracted extreme interest and been intensively studied for decades, their generation and evolution remain highly debated. Here, in contrast to the conventional expectation that chorus waves are governed by planetary magnetic dipolar fields, we report observations of repetitive, rising-tone chorus waves in the terrestrial neutral sheet, where the effects of the magnetic dipole are absent.

Imaging the entire cardiomyocyte network in entire small animal hearts at single cell resolution is a formidable challenge. Optical microscopy provides sufficient contrast and resolution in 2d, however fails to deliver non-destructive 3d reconstructions with isotropic resolution. It requires several invasive preparation steps, which introduce structural artefacts, namely dehydration, physical slicing and staining, or for the case of light sheet microscopy also clearing of the tissue.

The purpose of this work was to evaluate the imaging dose for the Accuray Radixact ClearRT system. Low-contrast resolution and CT number consistency was evaluated as well. CTDI measurements were compared to vendor supplied values, and similar measurements were done on a Varian TrueBeam kV cone-beam CT (CBCT) and a Philips Big Bore CT scanner.

The precision in electron holography studies on electrostatic and magnetic fields depends on the image quality of an electron hologram. Enhancing the image quality of electron holograms is essential for the comprehensive analysis of weak electromagnetic fields; however, extended electron beam irradiation can lead to undesirable radiation damage and contamination. Recent studies have demonstrated that noise reduction using the wavelet hidden Markov model (WHMM) can improve the precision of phase analysis for limited thin-foiled crystals.

This review covers the theoretical background, pulse sequence considerations, practical implementations, and multitudes of applications of magnetic resonance acoustic radiation force imaging (MR-ARFI) described to date. MR-ARFI is an approach to encode tissue displacement caused by the acoustic radiation force of a focused ultrasound field into the phase of a MR image. The displacement encoding is done with motion encoding gradients (MEG) which have traditionally been added to spin echo-type and gradient recalled echo-type pulse sequences.
