The Society for Vascular Surgery clinical practice guidelines on popliteal artery aneurysms (PAAs) leverage the work of a panel of experts chosen by the Society for Vascular Surgery to review the current world literature as it applies to PAAs to extract the most salient, evidence-based recommendations for the treatment of these patients. These guidelines focus on PAA screening, indications for intervention, choice of repair strategy, management of asymptomatic and symptomatic PAAs (including those presenting with acute limb ischemia), and follow-up of both untreated and treated PAAs. They offer long-awaited evidence-based recommendations for physicians taking care of these patients.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Alzheimer Center Amsterdam, Amsterdam UMC, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Background: Tau-PET is a diagnostic tool with high sensitivity and high specificity for discriminating Alzheimer Disease (AD) dementia from other neurodegenerative disorders in well-controlled research environments. The role of tau-PET in "real-world" clinical practice, however, remains to be established. We hypothesize that tau-PET will lead to some changes of the pre-PET clinical diagnosis and will improve diagnostic certainty and patient management in patients with considerable diagnostic uncertainty.

Background: The priority problem of modern healthcare is irreversible dementia due to the steady increase in morbidity. Among irreversible dementias, Alzheimer's disease takes the first place. Most often, only with sufficiently pronounced cognitive disorders, the doctor can diagnose Alzheimer's disease, although it is obvious that the neurodegenerative process begins even before the clinical manifestations of the disease.

Background: This post-hoc sub-group analysis of the Japan-multimodal intervention trial for prevention of dementia (J-MINT) aimed to examine the efficacy of the multi-domain intervention in older adults with type 2 diabetes.

Method: J-MINT was an 18-month, randomized controlled trial. Participants aged 65-85 years with mild cognitive deficits were recruited and randomized into multidomain intervention (management of vascular risk factors, physical exercise, nutritional counseling, and cognitive training) and control groups (written health-related information every 2 months).

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

The Ageing Epidemiology (AGE) Research Unit, School of Public Health, Imperial College London, London, United Kingdom.

Background: The 2017 Lancet Commission on Dementia Prevention, Intervention and Care included air pollution in the list of potential risk factors for dementia. Air pollution has been associated with an increased risk of dementia in observational studies, but the causal relationship remains unclear. In this study, we used a two-sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) analysis to assess the causal relationship between PM, PM, NO and NO exposure and the occurrence of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia.

Alzheimers Dement

King's College London, London, United Kingdom; College of Medicine and Health, University of Exeter, Exeter, United Kingdom.

Psychosis is a common and distressing disorder in people with Alzheimer disease, associated with a poor clinical prognosis, an increased risk of institutionalization and for which there are no approved treatments. New approaches to diagnosis and symptom assessment and treatment are beginning to move the field forward, including the emergence of psychosis at the pre-clinical or even pre-cognitive impairment stages of disease in some individuals. The Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART) research criteria for psychosis in neurodegenerative disease, and the ISTAART criteria for mild behavioural impairment are examples of recent developments.
