The Pedersen hypothesis of fetal macrosomia in neonates born to diabetic mothers has been extended. In neonates born to gestational diabetic mothers, it is suggested that an intrinsic fetal pancreatic beta-cell hyperplasia 'pulls' glucose across the placenta, i.e. assists in glycemic control of the mother. The initial increase in fetal size due to fetal hyperinsulinism gives rise to developing hypoxemia, and the limitation in fetal oxygen availability alters differential tissue utilization of glucose, increases alpha-glycerophosphate synthesis in fetal adipocytes, and gives rise to a further increase in fetal adiposity.

People who are higher in conscientiousness, extraversion, and agreeableness and lower in neuroticism tend to live longer. The present research tested the hypothesis that personality trait change in middle and older adulthood would also be associated with mortality risk, above and beyond personality trait level. Personality trait change may causally influence mortality risk through corresponding changes in health behaviors, social processes, and stress experience.

Introduction: Skeletal muscle satellite cells (MuSCs or stem cells) play a crucial role in muscle development, maintenance, and regeneration, supporting both hypertrophy and regenerative myogenesis. Syndecans (SDCs) act as communication bridges within the muscle microenvironment, regulating interactions with extracellular matrix components and contributing significantly to tissue repair and inflammation. Specifically, syndecan-4 (SDC4) is involved in muscle regeneration at multiple stages.

Infections by carbapenemase-producing (CP-Pa) are concerning due to limited treatment options. The emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) high-risk clones is an essential driver in the global rise of CP-Pa. Insights into the molecular epidemiology of CP-Pa are crucial to understanding its clinical and public health impact.

Background: Umbilical lesions in pigs have a negative impact on animal welfare and productivity. It has been suggested that lifting young piglets by one hind leg may be a risk factor for developing omphalitis and umbilical hernia. However, the hypothesis that lifting piglets by one hind leg should stretch the umbilical wall and impede the healing of the umbilicus has not yet been investigated.

Background And Hypothesis: The kidneys may be susceptible to ectopic fat and its lipotoxic effects, disposing them to chronic kidney disease (CKD) in type 2 diabetes (T2D). We investigated whether the kidney parenchyma fat content and kidney sinus fat volume would be higher in persons with T2D and CKD.
Methods: Cross-sectional study including 29 controls, 27 persons with T2D and no CKD, and 48 persons with T2D and early CKD (urine albumin creatinine ratio (UACR) ≥ 30 mg/g).
