Acne vulgaris is a complex condition involving factors that affect the pilosebaceous unit. A primary manifestation of acne pathology is the development of comedones, often linked to the overproduction of sebum resulting from 5α-dihydrotestosterone (5α-DHT) and insulin activity. Ozenoxacin is a topical quinolone that exhibits potent antibacterial activity against Cutibacterium acnes (C.

The application of enzyme-based therapies has received significant attention in modern drug development. Lipases are one of the most versatile enzymes that can be used as therapeutic agents in basic skin care and medical treatment related to excessive sebum production, acne, and inflammation. The traditional formulations available for skin treatment, such as creams, ointments or gels, are widely applied; however, their use is not always accompanied by good drug penetration properties, stability, or patient adherence.

Most Gram-positive-selective antibiotics have low activity against Gram-negative bacteria due to the presence of an outer membrane barrier. There is, therefore, interest in developing combination therapies that can penetrate the outer membrane (OM) with known antibiotics coupled with membrane-active sensitizing adjuvants. However, two unanswered questions hinder the development of such combination therapies: the sensitization spectrum of the sensitizer and the mechanism of antibiotic-sensitizer mutual potentiation.

Topical fluoroquinolones (FQs) are an established treatment for suspected microbial keratitis. An increased FQ resistance in some classes of bacterial pathogens is a concern. Some recently developed FQs have an extended spectrum of activity, making them a suitable alternative for topical ophthalmic use.
