Objective: To compare the accuracy parameters of seven commercial molecular diagnostic tests for detecting SARS-CoV-2.
Methods: Studies evaluating the accuracy of seven different commercial molecular diagnostic tests for detecting SARS-CoV-2 (Cepheid Xpert Xpress SARS-CoV-2 test, Simplexa COVID-19 Direct, Abbott ID NOW COVID-19, Cobas SARS-CoV-2, Allplex 2019-nCoV Assay, Panther Fusion SARS-CoV-2, and BioFire COVID-19 Test) were included. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the QUADAS-2 checklist. A bivariate random-effects regression model was implemented.
Results: Meta-analysis of 12 included studies showed that the performances of commercial COVID-19 molecular diagnostic tests were high, with a summary sensitivity of 95.9% (95% CI 93.9-97.2%, = 60.22%) and specificity of 97.2% (95% CI 95.5-98.3%, = 56.66%). Among seven evaluated tests, the Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 and Simplexa COVID-19 Direct displayed lower sensitivity (91.6%, 95% CI 80.5-96.6% and 92%, 95% CI 86.2-95.5, respectively).
Conclusion: All evaluated tests showed good accuracy. However, the slightly lower sensitivity observed in the Abbott ID Now COVID-19 and Simplexa COVID-19 Direct should be considered when deciding on a test platform. Moreover, the diagnostic accuracy of COVID-19 commercial diagnostic tests should be weighed against their ease of use and speed.

Background: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have procoagulative properties. As EVs are known to accumulate in stored blood products, we compared the EV content and coagulation capacity of leukoreduced cold-stored whole blood (CSWB) with current prehospital and in-hospital component therapies to understand the role of EVs in the haemostatic capacity of ageing CSWB.
Materials And Methods: Blood was obtained from 12 O RhD-positive male donors.

Background And Aims: The performance of non-invasive liver tests (NITs) is known to vary across settings and subgroups. We systematically evaluated whether the performance of three NITs in detecting advanced fibrosis in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) varies with age, sex, body mass index (BMI), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) status or liver enzymes.
Methods: Data from 586 adult LITMUS Metacohort participants with histologically characterised MASLD were included.
Introduction: Sarcomas are rare cancers originating from mesenchymal tissues, manifesting in diverse anatomical locations, but notably in connective tissue, muscles and the skeleton. Thoracic sarcomas present a unique diagnostic and surgical challenge attributable to their rarity and pathoanatomy. Standard practice currently comprises wide surgical excision, often accompanied by adjuvant chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy.

Objective: Evaluation of the accuracy of direct digitization of maxillary scans depending on the scanning strategy.
Materials And Methods: A maxillary model with a metal bar as a reference structure fixed between the second molars was digitized using the CEREC Primescan AC scanner (N = 225 scans). Nine scanning strategies were selected (n = 25 scans per strategy), differing in scan area segmentation (F = full jaw, H = half jaw, S = sextant) and scan movement pattern (L = linear, Z = zig-zag, C = combined).

In this study, we present for the first time the landscape of the lung microbiota in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia in Intensive Care Units in Saudi Arabia. DNA from 83 deep endotracheal aspirate lung samples was subjected to PacBio sequencing to identify pathogens in comparison with conventional diagnostic techniques. Patients on ventilation with pneumonia presented with similar lung flora to those of patients on ventilation without pneumonia.
